Seriously, I'm a Fresno / USC alumn, and if those stadiums were restricted to alumni, they would be a quarter full. I have no problem with people supporting and rooting for schools they didn't "attend". Most colleges are community institutions that the locals take a great deal of pride. Family members may have attended, worked, and/or benefited from the institutions presence.
This is the one (and mean ONE) point of credit I'll give the SEC schools. Their communities throw themselves in support for their local school. I wish a lot more communities would do the same.

I met this girl at San Francisco Athletic Club during the Miss St/Ole Miss game. See was hardcore cheering for State. My buddy and I were cheering for Ole Miss since we are Buckeye fans and a Miss St loss was needed to help us in the playoffs. She started talking to us, assumig we were Ole Miss fans. Turns out she went to Ole Miss for college, but is a die hard Miss St fan because her whole family went there and despised Ole Miss. I said that doesn't make sense since you went to Ole Miss and she said "you aren't from the South, you wouldn't understand."
