No, the Raiders just don't agree with the language of the deal and are even against portion of what was proposed by the league. No where did it state that they were on the players side.

No actually Al has always been a huge players owner. He loves his players just as long as they don't cross him. Even the biggest raiders hater knows Al is an owner that cares for his players. The raiders need money it does not benefit them by turning down a deal that would give them extra cash.

Al has had the most players choose him to induct them into the Hall of Fame. So in the end his love for his players and his hate for all things NFL really makes him the smartest man of the day. He didn't choose a side but by being the only one not to agree he stands out. Players and ex players have taken notice of this on twitter. So that could pay huge dividends for the raiders in the coming years because they know that owner has they're back. Even warren sapp has given Al props and Sapp has slammed the hell out of the raiders since he left. I don't like the man and I definitely don't like the team but I have to respect the man for what he does even at his old dying state. The NFL would not be what it is without him so I respect that.

So true. He may be losing his mind, he may look like he died 5 years ago, but the man loves football and he loves his Raiders. If we could take his passion and give it to the Yorks I definitely would.
This may be the nerd in me coming out but I compare him to Magneto from X-men.

guys he abstained from voting...he never voted against the proposal.
Players were caught off guard a little. D Smith was secretive so the players really havent read the deal all the way through.

Some think a positive vote could come today. This deal guarentees the players 120 Billion to 150 billion over 10 years.

There is no excuse for that. If they have really spent the last two weeks on 2 issues, then there is no reason that the player reps shouldn't have already been briefed on the other issues.
I am not going to waste anymore of my time worrying about this BS! When it happens, it happens.

n future seasons with the Raiders, Allen formed a stormy relationship with owner Al Davis stemming from a contract dispute where Davis referred to Allen as a "cancer to the team."[5] He also missed most of the 1989 season with a knee injury. Allen was relegated to back-up duty in his final three seasons with the Raiders and, at one time, fell to fourth on the depth chart.[6] Allen's strained relationship with Davis reached an all-time low in December 1992. During halftime of the Raiders-Dolphins game on Monday Night Football, a taped interview between Al Michaels and Allen was broadcast, with Allen stating that Davis "told me he was going to get me." Allen further stated, "I think he's [Davis] tried to ruin the latter part of my career, tried to devalue me. He's trying to stop me from going to the Hall of Fame. They don't want me to play."

in addition to firing Cable and Trading Gruden, whom both the players liked

totally sounds like a players guy
If Al Davis was such a players Owner, why not just simply vote "no" rather than not voting at all?

I find that curious.

Appearing this morning on ESPN’s SportsCenter, 49ers linebacker and NFLPA* representative Takeo Spikes talked about the timetable for a vote on the proposed CBA, which was approved Thursday by NFL owners.

“I expect a vote to happen when a fair deal is reached,” Spikes told Hannah Storm.

If the current contract went to vote right now and 52% of all the players voted yes and 48% voted no (including takeo, brady, manning, jackson) would that new cba be accepted?

it seems (maybe its me) that only a select few nfl players have the ability to accept the new CBA for all

He probably just didn't vote bc he's dead. It's obvious.

Yeah, 52% would be fine - except the plantiffs will need to drop their lawsuit as well

Yep. But they would be in a hugs amount of pressure to sign off if the union does.

One of the concerns Spikes raised about the proposed deal is the impact down the road of inflation. On a deal that pays the players 48 percent. Of the gross.
