Jay_Glazer: Players gave owners some counters, didn't hear back regarding them and also didn"t like timeline of re-certifying and enacting certain rules

The only language change I can agree to not pass the CBA for is limiting health rates and retirement benefits...other than that the players need to quit b***hing between 46 to 48% revenue and get to work! Playing a f'in GAME!!!

Some of these responses are ridiculous. As though the players are supposed to just accept an undesirable deal so they can "just play football".
Honestly I could care less about all that. They still gonna get paid millions
Not all.

99.9% of the players are going to make more than this entire board does in their lifetime to play a f**king game. I can't say I feel bad for them in the least.
That's because they generate more revenue than 99.9%of the people on this board. Who SHOULD get that money then?
The people who are taking the risk and ponying up the money to keep their teams in business.
In the entertainment industry it's not like the actors get the bulk of the profits of television and movies, it's the production companies/studios/financiers who are receiving all the profits because of the risk associated with it.
I haven't seen exactly the breakdown of profits that the players want so I can't necessarily say it's reasonable or not, but to continue to push this further back is suicide for both sides and they should know it.

Our government does it all the time, most recently with health care reform.

I can see that but they can respond with something a bit more positive instead of basically, "we're not going to worry about fans perception..." and "dont be fooled by the media..." and "we're not just going to agree because of this timeline." There are ways of doing and saying things.

2) If you were presented with a proposal, wouldn't you want to see how it differs from what you submitted to the other party?
True. But again...how far apart can they be at this point to where the players have to take such a douchebag stance?
Quote:
3) This is how negotiations work. Yes, they're taking their time but they have to to insure both sides are okay with the deal in place.
True as well but we were all under the (false) impression that "negotiations" were pretty much done and that they were just "crossing the 'i's and dotting the 't's." Players make it sound like..."oh this isnt what we wanted...the media is fooling you." You see how this can be irritating to the average fan?

4) We know nothing of what's happening on both sides. We've waited this long, what's another month or two IF both sides can say that they are near the middle point.
LOL another month or two? Who the hell wants to wait until the END of September to get this done? At some point, the owners AND players have to let go of certain things and do whats best for the people that actually pay them...the FANS. In negotiations you never get 100% of what you want. Sounds like the players got a huge bulk of what they wanted. It's time to stop the bs and play football and actually EARN all this revenue they want to fight over.
1) I can't agree to their statement. That was a douche move from the fans standpoint. I agree.
2) Again, they have not seen the proposals and the douchebag comments came from a few of the players, not all so in that regards, don't group them up as a whole.
3) Read DeMaurice's letter. NO NEGOTIATINS WERE DONE. The NFL ratified their own proposals, not the one that was presented to them by the NFLPA.
4) We, the fans, have no control over the NFL (minus what we actually pay for). If you do not agree with what's happening, then go elsewhere to buy their product (just an analogy, not telling you to leave the Zone).
Seriously, people need to NOT let emotions take over the reasoning part. IT'S STILL A BUSINESS the NFL/NFLPA run. It'll be over soon enough...

Part of the reason the players are teetering on signing a deal is because they say need more time to re-certify as a union and that it "doesn't happen over night like the owners time line suggests." why did they de-certify in the first place then? all it managed to do was hold up a deal getting done.
