I could really see Childress as Gruden's OC.

Really -- only a 3rd? I heard Philly got offers higher than that last year for Kolb.

I think it'll take a second rounder, but I expect his value to deflate from last year. Watching their games, Kolb has many weaknesses that are masked by the qb friendly system and great supporting cast. He consistently struggles making his progressions , a trait that I think is a deal breaker for a potential franchise qb.
Philly could get quite a bit from a team like Miami where it appears Pennington's injury-riddled career appears over and Henne continues to struggle. A solid QB could solve their problem.

The Dolphins are not the only team in that situations hence, Philly will get plenty of interest if they are willing to part with him.

For the same reasons Alex Smith will have plenty of suitors as well.

With only about a dozen teams really satisfied with their current starter, the scramble to improve the QB position will be the most interesting part of FA this off-season.

Kevin Kolb's Contract Extension Includes $10.7 Million Signing Bonus

Because of the lack of a new collective bargaining agreement, the Eagles and QB Kevin Kolb had to work on a contract that works within the system.

With no CBA, there is something called the 30 percent rule which restricts base salaries from increasing more than 30 percent from year-to-year.

So, how did the two sides get around the 30 percent rule?

Kolb received a $10.7 million signing bonus, which isn't regulated under the 30 percent rule.

Kolb and the Eagles likely didn't work on a long-term extension because of the complexities involved in the 30 percent rule.

So does Kevin Kolb get dealt?

No, not necessarily. They have him under contract next year for $1.4 million, a very friendly contract. Unless you get blown away by an offer, you’re holding on to both. And it’s up to some team to sway them otherwise.

at least a 11' 2nd and a 12' 3rd
he's worth nothing more than a 2nd.. you don't give up high draft picks just based on potential. if we can manage to pull him out of philly and draft/sign a few quality o-linemen, we'll be a winning team next year

He has the same value as Matt Schaub when he was in Atlanta. He was traded for 2 2nd round picks, and swapped a 1st round pick.

That seems somewhat right in terms of Kolb's value, and the Eagles will get similar compensation.

none of the above. not even close.
If Morneweg is our HC next year, we get the club discount of just having to let go a 4th (possibly).

-Keep in mind that Kolb has started, and has produced in his limited starts this year (despite being benched for Vick), so Philly will be asking for a 2nd/3rd (since the Chargers got away with a 3rd off the Seahawks for Whitehurst, the preseason hero).

...and that is a lot for a team that needs 4 starters in critical positions if it really wants to compete into the playoffs.

Me too. That is why I was so hopeful that Alex would be able to clearly fulfill the role of a solid (didn't have to be great) QB. Now with that option clearly still the top priority, it means that the team will have to just be flat out lucky with a 4th round or later draft pick to find either a NT, a pass rusher, a speedy #1 WR, a shutdown corner or a cover safety after using the #1 pick for a QB, IF, BIG IF, they are able to grab Luck or Locker with their first pick.

That is a HUGE order to fill if this team is to be a legit playoff contender next year.

Of course, all of this would have been a lot easier if there had been a 2010 model OC in place and some decent position coaching. To be completely honest, I believe one or two of those solutions might already be on this team is the new HC can bring with him superior position coaching.

So many of the problems spin off poor coaching.

Could Anthony Davis already be the guy they hope for at RT if he had been given help earlier in the season to build his confidence?

Could Chilo Rachal be the guy if he were in a more player friendly blocking/offensive scheme?

Could Alex have been an effective QB by now if the system had been designed around his skill set as has been done in St Louis with Bradford?

Could any one of the current group of young receivers have developed into acceptable #2 or #3 receivers with better coaching?

Could Vernon Davis learn to read defenses?

ETC

ETC.

i dont see Kolb doing well with us. i think hes doing good because of Andy Reid and their OC. in SF he would suck just like everyone else has. when we get a new HC we will draft a fresh QB for him to mold.
I would swap 1st rounders and give a 2nd.

that's what I think too. I might be willing to give up a 2012 first rounder, but there's no way I would give up what is likely to be a top 5 (at least top 10) pick this year for him.[/quote/]

Oh yeah a 2012 1st Rounder & draft Andrew Luck this upcoming draft & simply rid of D. Carr, A. Smith & T. Smith. Simply keeping Nate Davis as our 3rd QB !!!
To include (Big Tuna) Bill Parcells as GM/Head Of Football Ops; Jim Harbaugh HC; Let Harbaugh & Parcells find that OC that we really do need & hire Wade Phillips as DC w/ Manusky as LB's Coach...
