is not good bussiness, paying a guy sencond round money to only play ST.

At least we will get something out of his talent. It is better than trading him for a 5th round pick that has a high chance of never making this team.

At the same time I'd hate to cut a guy who projects to be a better all round NFL player just to keep Mays around simply because of where he was drafted. That wouldn't help the team on game day.

I dunno... who will be better on special teams, Mays or Colin Jones?
You people are beyond help. The guy lacks the physical attributes to succeed at safety in the NFL. He is not quick enough. He doesn't have it. THat's it. Why keep complaining about giving up on him when we already know what his potential is?

I didnt know people reach their potential after one rookie season??? Maybe because this is only his 2nd year in the NFL???

Nope we can already come to the conclusion that he sucks and can't cut it in this league because it is impossible for him to develop because he is not fluid in his hips and he will never get better at coverage. His 6'3 235 pound frame, 4.24 speed, and hard hitting ability are irrelevant because he lacks the 'instincts' necessary to play safety. He'll just never be able to read quarterbacks and flip his hips quick enough. We should give up on him now because we all know it's impossible for him to become quicker and more instinctual. Let's trade him for a pile of s**t because that would be the smart thing to do rather than taking the huge risk of keeping him around a bit longer to see if he can progress.

If he didn't want to trade Mays, why did he send out a mass email to all teams? This is unheard of in the business. It's not how things are done. If he wanted to trade Mays, he needed to identify potential trade partners (usually teams that might have a need as well as an asset worth getting back in return), and then contact those teams individually and negotiate.

How did he undercut himself? He broadcasted an email to the entire league, and word of it immediately leaked everywhere, so any potential trading partners immediately knew he was being shopped indiscriminately and thus did not have much value to the 49ers. That immediately made his value drop to basically nothing. When you shop that way, you look desperate, or at least give the perception that you are, which also means that you don't care what you get back, which means other teams think that Mays is damaged goods, or something is wrong with him.

Premature. Speculation.

You don't know what the plan is.

Mays is still on the team.

We'll see what happens.
a team should not get players just to be on ST, you want guys that play ST but have a very good chance of contributing on O or D, clearly the coaching staff does not want him on the D. trade him. i like the backup for Adrian Peterson, trade for him i forget his name but him looks like a beast.

We didn't get him for ST. Singletary thought he could mold him but it is obvious he doesn't have what is needed to play DB in the NFL. So what to do next for a player who isn't good for what you drafted him? Trade or ST.
i meant to say keep.
how do you quote a post from somebody else?

I'd rather keep a guy who helped out on special teams than one who might be a little better on defense, but couldn't play special teams at all.

Kray thank you. Baalke made a major blunder.
