He has never had good hands, and has always been a liability in key situations. Since slimming down some, he has become a non-factor as a blocker - the one area he used to excel at. He has speed still, but no not a "knack for getting open". And again, not a leader - leaders don't put their "brand" before the team.
Whether or not he contributes anything in Denver, this is in no way a loss for us. Good riddance to garbage - both as a player, and a person.

Vernon is a bad fit for Manning. He's effective as a deep threat, not so much in short or intermediate routes. Ol' noodle arm probably won't be able to throw far enough to make Vernon effective, and ol' Vern doesn't have the mits, or the tough attitude to be a safety blanket.
