Trades out of the 1st: Why you do that Lynch!?!? You're terrible!!! Raaaaawwwwrrrr!!!

Who would you have picked at #27? I think they were gambling that Lomu woud be there at 30 and saw an opportunity to get another pick. NE rraded up and moved ahead of them and took Lomu, There wasn't much left so they traded back again.
If they really wanted Lomu they would've taken him at 27.

I think its much more likely the decision to trade down happened when KC went off the board.

I don't understand going quantity over quality. The chances of drafting elite impact players go down when you trade back. It should be easier to draft a good player the higher you're drafting.

The talk is that there was only 12-15 first round grades and then a lot of similar graded players from late first round to 3rd round
Turning the 27th into 3 more picks and still being able to pick at 33rd is sweet.

What's interesting is that 2027 is expected to be a stellar draft that I'm curious if anyone trades their 2027 picks
Crazy night with the double trade back. Feels like that doesn't happen unless you are really into a player that is somewhat of a reach. Your not moving back and hoping Cooper falls to you.

Feels like a guard or DPR play. Or CB becomes more of an option with the additional picks.
So what was the ultimate return on the move down 6 spots and out of the first?

We got pick 33, 90, 179
We gave up 27, 138

So correct me if I am wrong. We basically got a very early 4th rounder or very late 3rd in trade value?

Based on how the draft worked out I probably couldn't have gone passed EMW at 27 if we had to make a pick, even though I was sure we'd go WR or Edge.

So based on the fact EMW is still available I can't say we made a bad move - even though I don't think we'll take EMW.

I'm with you here
What if we wanted Safety all along and once the kid from Oregon was picked we traded down to get the kid from Toledo.

Or we wanted Kc Conception and once he was picked we traded back knowing Omar Cooper or Denzel Boston would still be there?

Usually in these scenarios teams have very similar grades on 5 players for example and trade down 4 spots knowing at least 1 will still be there. Nothing wrong with that.

and to top it off we 24 hours to listen to trade offers!!! Go get a PROVEN player in a trade!!!

This is a exactly the kind of draft where you want as many bites of the apple as possible so I'm thrilled to see them being patient and letting it come to them.

Agree, and I'll just add the 1986 draft was similar in all the trade downs that walsh executed that year. Charles Haley was a 4th round pick that year, so you can still get good players in the later rounds.

Nope, so that means we're getting him
If McCoy checks out medically dude is going to be a major steal for whoever takes the risk

Could be or we want a guard.

Agree, will be fine with this if they take EMW. Very surprised he's still available. Don't want to see us trade out and watch someone else grab him.

Just the Miami trade alone provided a very early 4th rounder in value. The 5th is just a bonus that they can use to take a flyer on someone that drops or use it in a trade up.

This draft seems to have quality players throughout the first four or so rounds. But not really elite blue chip prospects.

so I think the team likes the 9 or so players it can get in those first four rounds over getting a first rounder who they aren't super high on anyways.

everytbing we need is still addressable. We really didn't move back too far for all those extra picks.

there is essentially only 5 players we won't be able to pick from since we traded back from 27 to 33rd. our selection didn't change much and added quality picks.

We went into the draft with a late 1st, 2nd and a bunch of 4ths.

We now have the first pick in the 2nd (basically a late 1st), another 2nd, a new 3rd, and 3 4ths.

This was brilliant. Brilliant stuff from the FA
