I love Solaks content and his pre draft evaluations. But man he looks like someone who's football background consists of handing water bottles to players while in civilian clothes on the sideline 🤣

All of my head coaches were big, fat and jacked former players with knee, shoulder and back problems.

All of my former head coaches from pop warner through high school were Samoan. Exactly like you said, big, fat, jacked? Not so much.. former players with all kinds of problems

Also what happened to The Draft Network? I was a big fan of all those guys…they all left and now that site is a shell of itself

Yeah man that was a go to for me during draft season. Sucks.

No offense my braddah but the way you type in here, I wouldn't describe as a "nerd" type. You lost too many brain cells like me growing up in the era where we were taught to hit crown of helmet to helmet

Draft Network started by bringing the top draftniks together onto one platform right as interest in the NFL draft really started to explode. Because the evaluators were already well known, and the masses were ready to move on from the Matt Miller's of the world, it took off really quickly. Add in the first actually functional mock draft simulator, and it was a hit.

Fast forward a few months tho, and it all collapsed really quickly.

Loss of talent. Jon Ledyard got exposed for saying some racist stuff online when he was younger, and he stepped away (or was secretly fired, possibly) to "work on himself" and distance himself from what was at the time a quickly growing platform. Shortly after, Solak joined the team. But by the time he became a household name, Trevor Sikemma was poached by PFF. Then Solak was poached by the Ringer I think before ultimately ending up with ESPN I believe. Before you know it, all the draftniks and podcasters who brought attention to the site were gone, replaced by people who the audience didn't know, and scouting reports the audience couldn't trust. The original team were talented, as evidenced by them all being poached by larger more prestigious companies, but more importantly, they were personalities as evidenced by their continued success in formats other than written articles. Who still listens to the Locked On NFL Draft podcast?! Ledyard and Sikemma were the best. TDN never got those likeable personalities back. They did get a few good evaluators tho....Who were then poached by ESPN and BR lol

Increase of competition. Other evaluators, podcasts and sites started popping up. Right as TDN was losing talent, places like The Ringer, Bleacher Report etc were going from unknowns at best and complete jokes at worst (looking at you Bleacher Report under Matt Miller) to a more reliable source of scouting reports than ever before. With the rise in NFL draft interest, companies like PFF started focusing big money on content creation. Gone are the days of Walter Football being the only option if you were willing to risk your hard drive. And then the nail in the coffin was the rise of competent competing mock draft simulators.

Business problems. Don't remember the whole story, but apparently TDN was started by a nepo baby. Eventually there was funding/CEO/business direction drama. IIRC the entire website was down for like 6 months because of money and/or hosting issues...argument over who owned the code to the mock simulator etc. Bad timing. People moved on and never had a reason to look back.

I cant remember the last time i went to TDN.

I also have no idea why i took the time to type all that.

Crazy draftnik knowledge. I'm impressed. Do you remember what that website was they created before TDN? It was an orange site and was like the precursor to TDN. This was like probably ten years ago. I really grew to appreciate Ledyard there. I love how he analyzes prospects. Dude keeps it simple, concise and doesn't overcomplicate things. Some of these new gen draft people I've encountered try to make "analyzing" way too deep.

You might be thinking of Pewter Report. Ledyard is a self proclaimed steelers fan, but he covered the Bucs. Maybe there was orange from the old-school creamsicle colorway and logo?

The other big duo was Kyle Crabbs and Joe Marino from NDT Scouting and the draft dudes podcast. It was really the popularity of the Draft Dudes and Locked On Draft podcasts coming together under one roof that made TDN so popular so quickly..was the dream team.

And yea, I reallllly appreciate Ledyards thoughts. He always remembers that you have to evaluate within the context of "yea, but how does that help me or hurt me on sundays?"

These new analysts just throw out buzzwords lol

Edit: OH, I remember they also bought a popular Twitter handle for a website that provided college cut ups so all of the draft fans were already following them when they started hahaha. Cant remember the name of the site tho, only that it was a sad day when it went down.

I found this article, which came out a yr or so ago. Basically explains everything you said and a bunch more. I listened to Locked on draft with Ledyard and Sikemma all the time! Marino and Kyle Crabbs still do something on there. I like them as well. Follow them all, not the same though.

Locked on 49ers this am, talking about Howell having one of the fastest turn the corner speed ever recorded at like 14 mph 👀 R Mason Thomas 12 mph
[ Edited by NYniner85 on Mar 27, 2026 at 4:12 AM ]
Howell is going to be a speed demon. What's surprising is that his stance and get off is so awkward/unrefined yet he still blasts out of the hole. There are reps where the guy's hips are completely perpendicular to the line of scrimmage. He often false steps, too. Teach this guy to stance properly, and he might add a step or two to his speed. 👀

Derrick Moore seems like the no brainer pick that ends up being a good pro the Eagles or Ravens take as other teams over think it.

Agreed. Classic story where people over analyze wanting more in his rush plan, wanting more bend, wanting a quicker jump, wanting to see counter moves. But the dude sets the edge, maintains gaps, pushes the pocket back quickly with power, bats balls with his length, and closes on the qb quickly when he gets his chance. The DC is going to love him.

Yeah I mean I've gravitated towards those bigger DEs that meet some thresholds. 3 down guys with violent hands.

but overall this draft is pretty underwhelming and if we're looking for that guy that can bring some juice, Howell is one of those dudes.
