Carson Schwesinger, LB, UCLA

I don't think they do considering all the LBs they've been meeting with. Saleh doesn't seem like the type of dude that's trying to hear "it's cool, we got Dee Winters!"

Outside of DT and LG, I don't see a bigger need than to replace Dre Greenlaw.

Unfortunately, you're probably right. I think they're going to feel urgency to address the starting 3technique spot with a guy like Omarr Norman-Lott at 43 and then address stack LB in the 3rd like Chris Paul at 75 or a guy later.

Out of the countless drafts I've covered, the 49ers have only drafted like 5 guys I really loved in like 15 years, so us expecting them to grab our guy(s) is setting ourselves up for disappointment.

Is that just in R1 or all rounds? Just curious. Admittedly, they have had some stinkers, but so do most franchises.

Carson would be a nice pick but they still have a lot of holes to fill. They might want to go in another direction.

But Carson fills one of those biggest holes formed when Greenlaw left.

Main thing is that they met with Schwesinger or talked to him at his Pro day.
I'm a bit conflicted. On one hand, his tape is overall quite good. A lot of flashing. Impressive for a walk-on with little experience. He seems a natural in zone coverage and generally is able to track the ball well and is agile to get to ball carriers. Agility is a big theme with him. He's like CMC of LBs in the way he approaches gap filling and tackling.

On the other hand, he relies on good technique and instincts in tackling (not a bad thing but will come in play later), not a thumper. Whenever he does take bad angles or guesses wrong, he cannot recover. One missed tackle with a bad angle on his RB in the LSU game led to a long TD pitch and catch instead of a five yard again. One on one coverage is not on the level of whatever coverage LB people have been comparing him to (Fred, Kuechly). Can get pushed around by lead blockers and big linemen.

I think there's better talent with less question marks available at DT. But considering WLB is a huge position of need and that the rest of LB draft is very shallow and FA LB scrap heap is barren, this is a conundrum.

If Schwesinger falls to the 43rd pick the 9ers have to take him its a sure thing. There's no telling if you'll get another chance at Chris Paul, Jeffrey Bassa or Demetrius Knight. Take your LB now!!!!
