Quit stealing my thunder. I was the one saying he plays like Kuechly

Oh lol my bad
Everyone and their Mom is hopping on the Carson Schwesinger bandwagon, and I don't blame them. I know this is going to sound crazy, but he should be in play at 11. That's how good the tape is. At the end of the day, it's all about drafting great players, and Schwesinger looks like he's going to be one of those.

I agree 100% and am actually leaning towards him being atop my board.

IMO he's the safest player in the draft. His instincts and sideline to sideline speed are NFL ready and I think he will be a 150 tackle, 4 INT, 5 sack LB for a decade.

And he fills a giant need for us.

Meet the next great 49ers LB, and the only player in the entire draft I'm making a thread for. I love this dude. Some of the best instincts and quickest trigger that I've ever seen on college tape. This guy was born to play stack LB. He shoots gaps, sniffs out screens, blitzes like a demon and shuts down his part of the field in coverage. Honestly, the only weakness I saw what that he is too damn fast to the ball that he rarely has to beat blocks, but when he does, he gets taken for a ride. An NFL weight room will help improve that. You put him next to Fred from day 1 as a Will, and he can replace Fred as the Mike in a few years when Fred retires.

Overview
Schwesinger went from walk-on to All-American at UCLA. He's a human bloodhound, pairing elite instincts with an understanding of blocking schemes and run tracks. The pursuit speed is average but his play recognition helps him play fast. He's undersized and takes the worst of it when blockers get on top of him, but he's a good athlete in coverage. He's also a sound technician as an open-field tackler and bona fide standout on special teams. Schwesinger was a starter for only one season, but his instincts, athleticism and competitiveness help him project as a future starter either inside or as a 4-3 Will linebacker.

Strengths
  • Rare instincts for maneuvering inside and avoiding blocks.
  • Body control and agility in short spaces is first class.
  • Plays fast and sees run-lane development like a running back.
  • Deciphers play-action and mesh-point shenanigans quickly.
  • Able to drop his weight and explode laterally as a tackler.
  • Has hips, feet and eyes to cover ground in zone.
  • Special-teams star who is resolute on kick coverage.

Weaknesses
  • Lead blockers tend to neutralize him in the hole.
  • Has issues getting rid of big bodies attacking him.
  • He's quick, but chase speed appears to be average.
  • Lacks the size and force for ideal stopping power as a hitter.
  • Could have issues carrying backs out of the backfield.

Cut the crap hero!

Dude will probably wind up on the Rams, Lions or Eagles and this will sting even more.

I'm having a hard time, only done LSU but he's been washed a few times and then taken bad angles trying to avoid blocks and ran himself out of plays. I know this is typical of smaller LB's, but we don't keep our guys as clean as we used to. I have more to do, but I'm running out of time!
Simms gushing over Schwesinger at 1:36:47. I'll give ShanaLynch a pass if they draft Zabel at 11 but do whatever it takes to secure my boy.

Well Chris Simms thinks that the Niners will draft Shemar Stewart so you won't get Zabel maybe but I'm not sure you will be super happy either.^^
As for Schwesinger, I hope they take him. He's awesome. But they're probably not going to take a LB before the third round. Also, I think that they want a guy like Fred or Dre Greenlaw that was more of an hybrid LB/Safety.

I'd be pretty surprised if he makes it to the 43rd pick. If he does you just have to take him.

It's hard to compare anyone to Kuechly he's probably the best cover linebacker ever
Day 1 is over, and the dream is still alive.
I wouldn't mind seeing the niners take a LB with their #2. This guy has a 40 inch vertical jump, which shows he's explosive and quick, in the short term anyway.
Top want at 43

I don't he'll last that long. Might have to trade up a few spots.

Agreed. I'd be very surprised if he was still there for us, but I'm not sure if trading up makes sense.

I have proclaimed my love for Mykel Williams for weeks but that was for pick 11. I wasn't as keen on moving up to get him as the niners attempted to last night. I think the value for Carson Schwesinger in the 30's is absolutely worth trying to trade up for.
