Exactly. There are about 35 quality defensive linemen available in this draft. We can easily get a stud starter in round 3 or 4.

But finding a stud CB in round 3 or 4? Good luck. Unless we want to trot another Ambry Thomas out there.

Then came of age and then they are the Champions. Guys like Sewell and Hutch (injured - but a great player) are studs on the Lions and changed what they are. So you can't look at it as just 1 year. In particular look up 2020 - 2024 for the Eagles drafts. Lots of TRENCHES and great ones in there. In particular prior to the DeJean year. Is DeJean good? Yeah I like him. But they built the TRENCHES prior to that. Then brought in some secondary guys to put icing on the cake.

A strong team is built up the MIDDLE. Buckner and Armstead. We haven't been the same since we lost them. In fact we get gashed right up the middle running. Stubblefield and Bryant Young from a previous era. Build up the middle has some advantages. It's bully ball.

No-one is arguing with you that both our lines need work. But We can build the trenches in free agency and the draft.

Im not pounding the table for Will Johnson but he makes sense.

If he is best player available. And yes you always need a potential all pro corner.
Exactly Johnson is a no brainer at #11 unless they invest in a starting CB in free agency.

You don't build a powerhouse on the backend. A powerhouse is built in the TRENCHES. It's why the Eagles and Lions are good. They build both sides of the lines. At almost 6'2" ish if he runs fast and is as good as they say he has a big chance to go before #11 anyway. Probably won't be there when we pick. But if he was and he's the best I understand the point of it. Just we still need to rebuild these lines on both sides. Especially interior defensive line and OT, OG, C on offense.

I think it's hilarious that you've been harping on this TRENCHES are the only way thing.

Every starter but one(Beckton was added after Kelce retired and Jurgens moved from G to C) on that Eagles OL and DL was on the roster the year prior when they had one of the worst team collapses.

What took them over the top was ironically drafting Mitchell AND DeJean and bringing in Vic Fangio.

Lions went one and done in the playoffs but also drafted back to back DBs.....so tell us more how we should be more like those teams.

DeJean didn't play meaningful defensive snaps until week 6

Eagles D gave up an average of 24 points weeks 1-4(they had a bye week 5) they went 2-2 in those 4 games.

With DeJean in on defense they averaged giving up 16 points weeks 6-17(he didn't play week 18) they went 12-1 in those 13 games.

Yes their trenches were a key part of their team but they went got over the hump bringing in two key rookie corners.

If the 49ers believe Johnson is BPA then you take him considering the depth on the DL in this draft class.

Dorian Strong and Cobee Bryant. But yes I agree far deeper pool to find game changers at DT & DE in rounds 3/4 than any other position this year

Aiyuk scares me with the injury and the contract extension if they could get decent compensation for him they could potentially reset the wrs on this team and save a lot of salary cap. Just a thought

I'd rather have Harris in RD2/3 vs trade up for McMillan

Ok but you see where my thought process is. They could remake the entire wr room and free up cap space. It would be gutsy in a year where a couple of players could get you back into the Super Bowl conversation. But in the long run it could be back in a multiple superbowl run.
All eyes were on Darien Porter, but now I'm back in love with Jahdae Barron.

Looking forward to Dante Trader Jr

I can't remember when the 49ers had so many options in the draft. They're drafting high enough to get a good player in that position but it's also high enough to make other teams want to trade for it. Thet also have a lot of picks in the first 4 rounds which gives them ammo to trade up. A possible trade for Aiyuk could get them another decent pick.

IMO this isn't the draft to be rebuilding your WR room.

we get to where we want to be if they fix the trenches imo.
