People are all over the place with Pearce. Daniel Jeremiah at the Combine compared him to Brian Burns. Brett Kollman early comparison was Aldon Smith. PFF once had him as the #1 overall pick. In the end, I'd still take him at #11, dude is a baller. I was once told Daniel Jeremiah didn't even have him as a 1st round pick, yet he's his 21st player.

Totally entitled to your opinion. I mean he doesn't have him going in the 1st in his last mock.

Tight hips and no bend. He's not Burns who had an elite level 3-cone and way more length. Aldon smith was like 20Lbs bigger and had a massive arm span. He actually won with speed to power and could set the edge.

those are horrible comps imo.

Where are you getting the no bend stuff from? Is someone telling you that, or are you watching tape and not seeing it? Because I watched all the vols games and he has it. I am hoping Graham falls to us, but if he doesn't and Pearce is still there, I don't mind him or Nolen who has been a blue chip prospect since high school. In fact, I believe he was the number one ranked prospect coming out of high school, just looks like Texas A&M sucks at developing d linemen under their current staff.

Both, I don't see great bend and a lot of draft analysts say the same thing. Watch him to do the hoop drill. It ain't there imo.

I think he's an explosive edge who's good at going forward very fast. If I want a lanky skinny edge I want him to have elite bend, be long, and be super twitchy.

Pearce ain't for me. Doesn't mean he sucks or will be bad. Certain schemes will able to use him better than others.
Put me down as someone who doesn't see much bend. He's got decent ankle mobility so that he can lean around the apex of his turn at good pace, but he's got to chop his feet to make tight corners, and I haven't seen many examples of him bending under tackles at full speed.

Put me down as someone ho thinks you put too much stock into men running around in shorts. Where were you before the Combine?
At 242 lbs he would be a situational pass-rusher and I agree that his bending is questionable.

Lol. I'm one of the most active members in this draft subforum of the zone, and im here merely to share opinions. BTW, my post you quoted has nothing to do with the combine, and my evaluation of Pearce has nothing to do with how he runs around in shorts. Not to mention, I haven't even said anything about my evaluation of Pearce other than that I don't think he has bend, and because of that, I don't think he comps favorably to Brian Burns as an archetype of pass rusher. Hell, I never even mentioned my perceived lack of bend as a negative, merely an observation.

And in case you wondering, this is where I was at on Jan 10, tho he's probably my edge 5 now ;) (and also not, in my opinion, far enough ahead of other edge rushers you can get at a discount to make me want to draft him in the 1st)

Sorry I keep forgetting you guys are arguing about the comp between Pearce and Burns. But, IMO, it's not too far off, I do think Burns is a little more violent rushing the passer.
I wish we could trade back completely out of the 1st round to the early 2nd round in the 30s

What he did do and didn't at the combine only backs up what was on film. Both good and bad.

And what is that?

Everyone knows how athletic Tennessee EDGE James James Pearce Jr. is. He came into the season as some analyst's top prospect in the class from summer scouting. But his junior year in Knoxville did not go to plan in 2024.
I was told that the Tennessee football program could not only breathe easier once Pearce left campus but that his pitch count in SEC play was not injury related. Pearce was seen as undeniably uncoachable and as a player with one foot out the door already this season, giving his coaches little incentive to put him on the field full-time.
Pending the Mike Green reports that have flooded the media over the past month, I was told by one scout that Pearce Jr. is seen as the player with the worst character report of any player in this draft class.
Another scout told me they think the environment and people around him in Tennessee are the main issues, and they think he could become a pro when he enters an NFL building.
I was left with a final note that while the general public would be stunned to see it happen, NFL personnel won't be shocked to see him on the board after the first 64 picks in the draft.

Yeah I'm out on him. Late day two; if he's still there, then f**k it I would take that chance
