I thought he looked okay. Held the ball too long a few times. Showed his accuracy and poise. He did have a really bad pass behind his receiver which with starters is a pick 6. Honestly he showed flashes as to why he was a 1st to 2nd round graded QB but it's about his character more than his play. And for that I have no clue how that's going

Looked pretty solid, mostly in line with how he looked on tape. Probably didnt look as good as his statline may suggest, but good for first ever start.

I charted one bad throw that Hysterikal mentioned, he was not under any pressure and then threw right to cornerback who shouldve made the pick. I charted one miss when he missed an open guy while on the run. His best throw by far was a good throw he made in face of pressure from his endzone, stood tall and took a hit after.

Could have used a bit more zip on the ball a few times, but ball speed was right where expected.

About the only thing mildly surprising is that he looked more athletic/faster than he did in Colorado. But again, this game was mostly against 2nd and 3rd stringers sans the first couple of drives (until the muffed punt it was the starters). Still, he picked up first downs, was aware of open lanes and generally was smart and decisive and quick.

There is still an issue trying to do too much and avoid sacks, which he needs to learn to throw the ball away because against some starters that won't fly. A good example was on fourth down where he had to escape twice only to throw the ball away to no one barely getting it past LOS. On fourth down there a better decision would be to just throw it up for grabs down the field.

Other than that, par for the course. He is not a 5th round talent, that much is clear. I also dont know whether he has any real character concern besides being Deion's son and rumors of being an entitled guy.
Now I have to listen to Shedeur Sanders hype for every preseason game.

They are retiring his jersey this week

He didn't run it so we don't know at the combine or pro day. It's hard to say. But usually guys don't run it because they are injured or slower than you would want. Therefore covering up for that. It's estimated by NFL scouts that he is a 4.7 - 4.8 guy from the tape and study. Even runs where he goes in that range of 40 yards. You can kind of estimate it. So he's not terribly slow for a person. But for a Dad who could run 4.2 it is curious. He doesn't seem to have the same genetics on speed. So maybe he takes more after his mother on fast twitch muscle. Not as twichy. Anything can happen. You can be fast like your parent or slower. But being who his dad is I'm surprised he can't do at least 4.5 or 4.4 or something. For whatever reason he didn't inherit the speed. Genetics and heritable traits are pretty random. You also could have Nikola Tesla as a father and not inherit the genius IQ. It's not guaranteed.

On here or in the media? I think people have been pretty balanced and fair here. I only saw a few drives, but I agree he was solid and poised, liked the TD throw and the dig over the middle. I think his arm strength is fine, pretty similar to Brock's, it gets there and is layered really nicely, but definitely isn't a cannon. Probably only an issue in bad weather games, but that will happen more in Cleveland.

It definitely confirmed that he's not a 5th talent. They will have a job keeping him at 4th string that's for sure. I would revolt as a Browns fan.

As far as his attitude, sure he's entitled to the point of arrogance, but there's loads of weird personalities in the league. Is he worse than Russell Wilson? Aaron Rodgers?

The flaw in that statement is that it's not hype. But yeah, you're gonna hear it, and rightfully so. The NFL owners basically guaranteed this Shedeur mania when they didn't allow the draft the unfold organically. Then, what made this mania grow even bigger is when he got to the Browns, they activated the normal draft positioning politics when everyone paying attention, even the local press and fans at camp, could plainly see that Shedeur is the most talented QB on their roster, yet they stubbornly insisted on treating Shedeur like a 5th round talent and giving him the least reps while treating Dillon Gabriel like a first round pick by giving him most of the 1st team reps. Hell, the day Shedeur suffered arm soreness, and the fans had to watch Dillon Gabriel stink up practice going 3 of 14 the fans were yelling that they wanted to see Shedeur. Now, after Shedeur's performance last night, even if Gabriel and Picket were healthy, there's no way in the world Stefanski & Co. can go along with this 5th round treatment with the lopsided rep distribution and expect the local fanbase and press to take it quietly. Mark my words, if they do, the first bad play from Gabriel and/or Picket, fans in the stadium are gonna be calling to put in Shedeur. Book it. Not saying that it right, but predictable.

The NFL owners created this monster (not Shedeur but the media and social media frenzy around Shedeur) and the Browns are feeding it. So, you're gonna hear this all season until he's named the starter.

Yup, you're right. And everyone watching can plainly see this. Which is why I think the local fans and press are quietly preparing for revolt.

Different body types
I didn't want him then. Don't want him now. I wish him luck but I just don't see it. It's effin pre season guys.

here is a reminder - before the lions went 0-16, they went 4-0 in pre season. Lol

sanders is too selfish of a football player and way too immature right now to succeed as a starter, IMO. Maybe a few years from now but he looks like an average player at best to me.

Did you not see Bradley and Mordy yesterday?

If we are discussing 3rd and 4th options, then yes. I'd rather have them than sanders. I don't particularly care about either of them and don't care if they're replaced but I don't want our 3rd or 4th guy being a media circus.

brock is our starter, Mac is our backup. The rest of the guys are just there to help us game prep week to week - not play QB (hopefully). If we lose Brock and Mac, we are effed anyways. What we don't need is a media distraction like sanders in our qb room, dumb fans will clamor for him every time Brock misses a throw or gets sacked.

Sanders would have been a really bad selection for our team. Let the media circus be elsewhere. Look at how much attention a 4th stringer is currently getting?

I agree he's a bit of a circus but he's not out causing trouble at least not that I recall didn't really follow him in the draft. I didn't want him but once it was the 4th the value was so good I was considering it. Can't compare the browns to the 9ers The browns have an open QB competition. We know who are qb is, maybe the media spins a segment "should the 9ers start sanders?" If Purdy had a couple bad games in a row for views but 90% of fans wouldn't even consider it

"Circus" is the correct word to use. As I stated, the NFL owners created this moster/circus when they refused to allow for the draft to unfold organically. When they put their thumbs on the scale of the draft it guaranteed this monster/circus. Then, the Browns are feeding this monster/circus by how they're handling Shedeur. Nobody in their right minds believe that Dillon Gabriel is a better QB than Shedeur. Few teams had Gabriel going before the 4th or 5th round. But the reports coming out of camp are very damning on Stefanski & Co. because Shedeur has looked the best in camp but they are forcing Gabriel down the Browns fans throat, then Shedeur performs the way he did in the preseason game. There were Browns #12 and Colorodo #2 jerseys all over the place, in a road preseason game.

Look at what the locals are saying. This is just the beginning. I think the NFL owners seriously miscalculated.

So Shedeur gets no blame in anything right, its all the NFL's fault? No blame for bombing his interviews and being an arrogant prick? Just the mean NFL being mean to Deion Sander's son for no reason at all.

Looks like he was humbled, came into the Browns team put his head down and put in the work. Then it all paid off the other night.

But somehow we are all shocked the Browns wanted to give their high draft pick Gabriel every opportunity to win the job. Shocking!!!
