2024 Draft Class: DB

The 49ers are a heavy zone scheme. Also, they need every corner spot filled given that Dmo and Ward are free agents after 2024. Both of these dudes are going to get paid, especially Dmo who I think is going to have a massive season. Dude is a baller.

He a lock to take at 31 but he probably won't get there. To me he's the only (realistic) prospect you'd trade into the early 20s to take.

He helps the Niners in so many ways. I think he's uniquely valuable to the Niners given their needs and his versatility.

Niners have too many picks this year. They need to get five quality guys. Trade picks to get better talent.

Also, DeJean playing at Levi's just make too much sense.

IMO you don't need to draft CBs in the 1st you're just a zone heavy scheme.

Again he looks stiff imo. Noticed he didn't do any agility drills.

One thing we've learned from the 49ers is that they don't apply value like that. They value the individual player, and they'll apply their own cost irrespective of league consensus or perceived value.

In other words, they want their guy even at the expense of spending more resources than others. Not saying this is wrong or right. It's just what it is. Personally, I'm not a fan of it because it leads to reaching more often than not.

I hope not, that means someone else dropped to us.

also I don't think he's a bad football player.

Would you take Kool Aid over Cooper? If both were there at 31

Bump

Thought I commented on this? I think I like Kool-aid more as a CB who has shown man coverage skills. I think he's a safe prospect. His foot injury scares me. Cooper is a good football player. I think he might end up as a safety and imo that's a downgrade as far as spending a premium position on a non-premium position.

I mean they haven't drafted a CB in the first two rounds since 2014 (Jimmie). You can find good zone CBs later…they're not as valuable as a true man coverage DB. That's all I'm saying.

I agree with you that when they value a player they will reach…do it every year and it's frustrating as s**t.

Im already in acceptance with them taking Morgan lol. f**king hate it

You're in a spot where you may lose 3/4 starting DBs next year. You have to draft early. Maybe not 1st round, but you can't have two rookies starting at DB next year. DeJean also solves for PR. And gives them flexibility with personnel in the secondary. Niners love options.

Don't see how they let Ward walk. I can see an extension in his future.

he doesn't solve playing man on 3rd down he doesn't solve much if Ward leaves imo. I agree they need to add to the secondary.
Quinyon Mitchell
Khyree Jackson
Max Melton
Mike Sainristil
Jaden Hicks
Cooper DeJean
Javon Bullard
DJ James
Kamren Kinchens
Kool Aid
Tyler Nubin

All excellent options

Passing on most of those guys.
With Niners history of drafting secondary late (haven't drafted a CB in the first or second round since Shawntae Spencer), here's who I think should be on their radar from rounds 2-4:

CB's
TJ Tampa
Mike Sainristl
Max Melton
Khyree Jackson
Kris Abrams-Draine
Andru Phillips
Jarvis Brownlee
Elijah Jones
Josh Newton

Safety
Javon Bullard
Jaden Hicks
Calen Bullock
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
Sione Vaki
Cole Bishop
Beau Brade
Troy Taylor
Malik Mustapha

Just mentioned him in the prospect thread. He would fit nicely here with his skill set
This board is still largely sleeping on Renardo Green. It's him, Melton, and Sainristil for me

I like Renardo. For me it really depends on what the 49ers plan on doing with Lenoir. Going to be the nickel corner? Are they going to pay him? If so, we need a boundary zone corner, and I dont think thats Renardos strength. More of a press man guy in blitzing schemes where he can be aggressive early. Chiefs come to mind. But if you need a nickel guy, or just keep to BPA without scheme, he could easily look like a steal in a few years.
