DL, OL, and secondary are dominating the reported position group meetings so far. Our three greatest needs by far.

LB is close behind for sure, but we don't really have other holes outside of WR2/3 of the future and TE2, but much less pressing need there because we can pickup those cheap as fa or UDFA competition sometimes.

Maason Smith, great weigh-ins minus abnormally small hands

Mekhi Wingo with a very worrisome weigh-in. He is tiny. I had concerns about him getting swallowed up by linemen in the NFL, and he measured in as a tweener.
Texas DT T'Vondre Sweat at #31 is the answer

Niners need a powerful Vita Vea/Dexter Lawrence type of player to stuff the middle and create pressure from the inside. Sweat fits the bill.

In our current scheme? This is one guy I will guarantee they aren't gonna take

There's a lot of other prospects to go, so we'll see at the end but dangit I wouldn't be surprised. I want him so bad here.

You've been high on him for awhile. I can see why

I disagree, the run defense sucked pretty bad last year because we didn't have a big body run stuffer that demanded double-teamed blocks and win those battles. It doesn't matter what scheme you run if you can't stop the run you will lose majority of the time. Our DTs got easily flushed out of the play and pushed back for the majority of the season sometimes leaving the RB untouched for the first 3-5 yards. Having a Vita Vea type of player helps a lot in most ways no matter the scheme.

Sweat is great at holding his position at the point of attack barely moving a step back on those double team blocks. He's extremely powerful with violent hands and good technique, hand placement and active feet wins him a lot of reps. He may not be a 3 down player in his rookie year but he's good to play the first 2 downs before the pass rushers come in on 3rd and passing downs. Give him a year or 2 in the NFL strength and conditioning program and he'll shed some weight and become a 3 down player. Hard to find an elite sure starter at the end of the 1st round might as well draft a player with game changing potential and have Kris Kocurek develop him into just that.

Name me the last true 2-gapping NT they drafted? Someone who's purely a 2 down player and their job is to stop the run? You can't because that's not what they do or want.

They had no problem stopping the run for years without investing high in that type of player. I'm not saying don't add a fatty to the roster…I'm saying not a chance in hell they draft him in the top 2 rounds.

also disagree he has good technique. His pad level is not great and I don't see any go to pass rush moves that he wins with. I don't see explosion off the LOS. He's just a huge dude that's hard to move at this point.

IMO would be a horrible pick and really a waste based on what they do on that DL. So agree to disagree there.

My 2 cents: Sweat is the most gifted true nose in the draft. He is not an uber productive pass rusher, but rather a pocket pusher. He may develop into a 3 down player, but currently, I'd expect him to be more of a 2 down guy. He clearly has athleticism and some burst, but the problem is that hea just too damn heavy. The fact that he didn't weigh in at the Senior bowl, and then a few weeks later, weighs in at the combine at 366 tells me he was 380+. In his interview at the combine he said something along the lines of "this is just who I am" when asked about his size and his playing weight. I bet he'd be an absolute freaking beast if he was 30 lbs lighter, and 336 lbs is still a massive NT, but there should be massive concerns about his conditioning and his discipline. Concerns that I doubt the niners overlook.
