OSU DT #51 Michael Hall Jr. is super twitchy as pass rusher. Can really be a mismatch on the interior. https://t.co/LqxieYNgaD pic.twitter.com/c2S9egJbAf

Ohio State DL Michael Hall Jr. is undersized at just 280 pounds, but his hands are so quick and so powerful that he's one of the most disruptive interior defensive linemen in college football.

He's a handful to block and his motor runs constantly. pic.twitter.com/DT7kYInn8H
Michael Hall Jr. with the nasty euro/spin win during one on ones at the @seniorbowl@MichaelHallJr_ had the blocker beat off the set up alone! #PassRush #NFLDraft

If you want a one-rep clip of what NFL teams value most these days, aside from QB, here it is.

Just look at who got paid 𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙙 last week in FA (C. Jones, C. Wilkins, J. Madubuike)...it was disruptive IDL.

So many good rushing IDL in this draft. Couple elite ones that will go on day 1, but man we can get a good player on day 2 for sure

The wide 9 is already inherently weak up the middle. The 49ers having all these tiny 3techniques only exacerbated the run defense and killed the pass rush by the time the playoffs rolled around. They did a good job of getting bigger and stouter in free agency, but they're still missing a base/short yardage nose.
Due to the defensive trends that have spread across the league, the 2024 NFL season is going to be the return of big personnel/run game. It's not the year to load up on undersized 3techniques.

He weighed in at 290 at the combine FWIW. I think they will always gravitate towards those 4-3 3tech penetrators.
theres plenty of DTs in this draft, it's a good year to get some depth/rotation. I'm down to grab a big fat DT later in the draft as well

He has some good penetration reps but other times gets annihilated, especially with duo blocks. I was initially very high on him and simmered a bit when I got the whole picture.
He might be an option if we want him playing heavy end and going inside on pass downs though.

Exactly my thinking. I would like a mammoth in there to help with the run. Technically a guy who can stonewall 1-2 interior guys opens up everyone else regardless run or pass.

Illinois DT Johnny Newton, a projected 1st-round pick, just wrapped up an impressive Pro Day — showcasing elite explosion and power after a Jones fracture that he's fully healed from.

I'm told the following teams were in attendance, among others:
Bills
Cowboys
49ers
Jets… pic.twitter.com/ggMIiIBkub

Don't we need interior run stuff? Like Mazi Smith he went round 1. I thought this is that kind of player, he fits a day 1 need and we know JL likes DL

Mazi smith has been a bust thus far and was almost 30lbs bigger than him. they're not the same player.
Jenkins was too inconsistent for me to use a 1st on…if you're a RD1 DT you gotta be able to get after the QB consistently. There's plenty of big run stuffing DTs that you can take later.
I haven't seen on single mock or draft analyst giving him a 1st rd grade and rightfully so.

If he's there in the 3-4 round range.
