Jake Haener (QB)- Fresno State

I love his game. He has suffered injuries over the last few years but I see something the coaching staff could work with. Worked with Tedford and DeBoer (now the UW head coach) while at Fresno.

What are the zone's thoughts on Haener?
I like Haener...throws a nice ball. He seems small out there, though. He is also very tough. I probably see him as a backup with upside. I think he has great leadership skills as well.
I's spend a 7th on him.

Yup take him in the 6th round, Brock Purdy is gonna need a back up next season.
Brock Purdy ver 2.0 for 2023?

A third stringer, you mean! I like him, though the position is fairly well covered for us.

Purdy is definitely going to bump his draft stock up. When all the draft profiles get written in February and March, he'll sound a lot like Purdy. If he happens to be around in the late 5th to late 6th, I'd say take a shot at him and bring him in to develop as a long term backup for Purdy/Lance/whoever.

What round he projected to go in?

Draft another solid prospect or sign Minshew/Heinicke. Problem solved.

Especially if Purdy ends up having TJ.

Haener is no longer a Brock Purdy type of "sleeper" prospect if everyone is on his nuts. Suddenly, his draft status goes through the roof. A projected 7th rounder gets taken in the 2nd.

I'm sure there are other small school prospects that are just as intriguing.

I find it interesting that this is the Draft War Room thread, yet nobody did a mockup on Brock Purdy last year. Nobody apparently thought he was important enough to do a mockup on. This is just a guess on my part. I'm not really sure. But nobody paid attention to the kid until the 49ers drafted him. And the only reason people paid attention to him after the draft is because he was the last pick. After that, everyone kind of forgot about him.

That's the type of guy we should be looking at.

With Jimmy gone we need to get a new 3rd string project

Mid rounds is possible, but I don't see a second round pick. As for Purdy, the Draft thread isn't very active as it is, but no one on the planet was discussing Purdy. As niner fans, we just drafted Trey Lance and so no one was looking for the next great starting QB, and backup QBs don't garner much interest when we're all looking for the next great right tackle
