Fields was set and had a clear pocket. Perhaps you forgot to put on your boomer glasses, but the Mahomes gif has him throwing fifty yards off his back foot under pressure that hit him just after release, not from three yards away from the nearest defender with his feet set.

No reason to embellish things. If you want to be a Mahomes homer go be a KC fan. Its not hard.

As one of the few that was HUGE on Mahomes in his draft thread, quoted as stating "Mahomes is the only superstar QB in this draft", there were VERY few people pounding the table for him to be the pick @3 and almost universally patting each other on the back for the Thomas pick. I'd assume a Favre comp would have resulted in said pounding. The revisionist history on this forum.....

I for one watched Mahomes tape and fell in love but literally dismissed him as a candidate because he didn't fit Kyle's type. And instead was on the Peterman hype train.

I can't think of a bigger condemnation of Kyle's love for a certain type of QB than that.

I'm still salty about. Just like I'm salty about Jimmy missing key reads in the Super Bowl. That's probably why I'm so critical of him.

I'm just salty in general.

This class is certainly "generational." Lawrence can do a lot of what Fields can do, and Wilson can do some of what Mahomes can do.

But none of these guys are on the same level as the beat guy from 2017.

Totally disagree...end of the day where this guys go will determine how high they can reach their ceiling. Same thing could have be said for Mahomes/Allen.

Embellish? It's about observable reality. I'm a fan of MY EYES, which is why I argue these things.

Let me guess: you think Jimmy and Stafford are interchangeable as well, right? Who was the one saying Watson and Jimmy are about the same? Was that you?

Meant to say best guy, not beat. The BEAThard guy sucks.

But maybe — hopefully — you're right. But zero have the same arm talent.
Why do people feel the need to compare players to greats? I'll say Fields is closer to Mahomes than Jones is to Brady.

100% fair.

Mahomes is a great NFL player. No need to embellish his college days to pump him up. He doesn't need it.
Came here to read about fields....must have misclicked and got stuck in the Mahomes Thread
Mahomes is literally in QB heaven being in KC with the weapons he has.

Fields could be really good with what we have going here

Fields will be fine from day 1. Mobile qb's can always fall back on their legs.

From day 1 Kyle's purpose will to stop him from doing this. His problem with athletic quarterbacks is that he can't get them to exhaust all throwing options first, and therefore miss better designed options. And when you do get into a scramble drill, he's Still going to want you to keep your eyes on your receiving options as along as possible.

This statement makes me think it won't be Fields.

It took Years and Bill Walsh and Mike Shanahan for Steve Young to learn this. Our rookie doesn't have years.

That's my understanding too. The difference between 3rd, 4th, and 5th means to me that they envision any of the top 5 QBs as upgrades and worthy of the trade up. What we don't know was if the 3rd pick was specifically strategic or if it was pragmatic. At this point it doesn't matter. I honestly believe that because of the COVID restrictions, they didn't know exactly which QB they'd choose / prefer, but the initial scouting placed all 5 guys as worthy of the pick and worthy of at least next year's first round pick too. Also, part of the calculus was that next years QBs were not valued as high, so it was time to strike. And by moving up, it gave them adequate time to examine their options out in the open as opposed to in the shadows at #12.

Breer said they never offered anything for 4-5 and more or less was asking if they were willing to move down....my takeaway from that is they were seeing who wanted a QB in the top 5 and who was willing to move down for someone that may wanted a QB.

They along with Miami didn't shop their pick with any other teams...it was just a matter of Miami finding a 3rd team.

I can't wait for the draft to be done at this point lol

Or it could be that they wanted to go to 3, but Miami wasn't will to go back to 12 so they were checking with 4,5, and 6 to see who would be willing to go back to 12, and Philly was the only team. ????????‍??

but do you think Mahommes is a fair comparison for any QB prospect? Mahommes also has one of the most special passing abilities ever. He makes throws that are just unbelievable, every game. He has set records in his first few seasons etc.

My whole point is that I would take a special passing talent over a special running talent that can throw. I am not saying fields cant throw or anything like that - just making a general point. I'm going to root for and support whoever we select. The only Qb I would be disappointed in if we selected would be Lance, would still support him though.

As a prospect Fields is light years ahead of Mahomes coming out of Texas Tech. FIelds is literally a once in a generation prospect. That does not mean he is perfect & will not need to be coached in the NFL. But if he comes close to maxing out he is a top 5 QB easily.

Well if that is true, no need to worry about us signing him as the Jets will certainly take a "once in a generation " prospect.
Fields is a real talent. The "once in a generation" was taken by Andy Reid a couple yrs ago.

Talent is one thing...hyperbole another.

You do realize multiple HOFers can play at the same time and even come from the same draft?

I'll be very excited with Fields. But, if Shanahan picks Lance - I'm gonna be beyond excited. Shanahan + Lance will wreck this league - in a similar way Reid and Mahomes have and will continue to do so.

What similarities do you see in Lance and Mahomes that lead you to that conclusion?

I would say Lance's college career is closer to Lamar Jackson's than it is to Mahomes. Lance looks like a better passer, but Lamar threw for more yards and more TDs against better competition on 2 different seasons, that Lance did in his 1.

I'm not saying Lance comp is Mahomes - even though there are some similarities - like size, arm strength, ability to break tackles, and throwing on the run with great velocity.

I'm saying - bc of his mental aptitude - he could truly understand Shanahan's offense and take it to another level.

College stats are college stats. He's doing what's asked of him. If you watch Lance and Lamar - you know they're not similar at all.

I posted this in Lance thread but I'll post it here too.

This guy coached both Fields and Lance and believes Lance's potential is the highest in this draft. Go to 11min mark when he starts speaking about them.

Mahomes stuff aside, this is a beautiful throw that directly translates to Shanny's offense. I don't need to see the all-22 to know this is yankee, one of Kyle's favorite concepts. Come on, Kyle, don't overthink this one.
