And the Colts have added monsters in this draft, setting up Rivers for success.
Exactly, fact is, Buckner is worth what he's getting on the Colts... because the Colts need a guy like that on the line. The 49ers would like that guy on the line, but Buckner isn't as needed given the other players on the field.
49ers got the replacement (we hope) in a guy that can disrupt and will require honest attention; which will allow the guys around him to take advantage of single teams and RB attempting to block. Buckner is better, but not as needed... on the 49ers.
It's a team game. Getting a guy that looks to start and be very good with less cap hit is a major win given what the 49ers have invested in other players and will have to invest in other players in years to come.
Totally agree.

In 20/20 hindsight, instead of a 7th round WR, I'd have liked a good rookie DB pick in addition to Kinlaw. The 2020 draft was a bit heavy on the offensive side, to say the least in my mind, but again once they picked Kinlaw and Aiyuk, that pretty much was the draft and anybody else after that won't have that great a chance to make it on this team.
But back to Kinlaw, I love this guy's skillset and power. He's perfect for Kocureck's scheme of gap penetration and all sorts of stunts and dog stuff. I agree that Buckner, as awesome as he was as a player, may not have fit quite as well in Kocureck's DLine scheme as Kinlaw. Losing Buckner - we lost a ton of experience and saavy as well as all pro talent, but getting Kinlaw is maybe getting (as another poster said) 75% of Buckner back.

there is plenty of tape of him turning and running to the ball, but that is a hard question to answer with out knowing what he was coached to do. Most downs it appears his job was to blow up a gap. He did a real damn good job of that.
I dont think his best ball is to sit and react having to watch two gaps.....
Turn him loose and let him one gap and come hell or high water meet the ball in the back field.

What he has over Buckner is the ability to reset the line of scrimmage and allow other players to make the play. I saw him consistently push his lineman into the backfield on run plays. IMO this was not Buckners game.
So to answer the question... I do think Kinlaw needs to improve his ability to find the football. But I also think he's gonna be more of a disruptive force in run defense almost immediately into his career.

Agree I think we see some of that game number 1.
He is going to add something we didn't have a lot of last year.
For better or worse... he will move the QB very early in his career..... with the current DIne he could be a better fit the Buckner

We don't need him to get sacks in year . Just push the pocket and demand a double team.

I don't know.....maybe......
I don't think he pushes the pocket around, especially if he gets doubled.
I think his best stuff is when he ignores if its run or pass and he just gets upfield. There were a hand full of snaps you see him line up a half yard behind the LOS, making it almost impossible to double team him and lets him contact the LOS at full speed...its good stuff. It really reminds me of Stubby in his keyed stance.

I would estimate a 90+% both McKivitz and Woerner make the team, and a 80+% chance all 3 late picks make the team

You think we carry Kittle, Juice, Dwelley, Hurd, and two more TE/FBs? Can't see it.

???
Where did you get 2 new additional TE/FBs? The late picks were McKivitz (OL), Woerner (TE), and Jennings (WR).
Hurd is nowhere close to a TE yet, and he lost a whole season + offseason of practice time to start the transition. Even if he ends up as a move TE someday, he's not there now. Woerner is the third TE, the backup in-line blocking TE we lost when Toilolo left in FA and Celek retired. TE group will be Kittle, Dwelley, and Woerner, unless Helm steps up and snatches that third spot. Hurd will be in the WR group, at least for now.
McKivitz has a good chance to stick in an OL group that will have at least one extra member (w/new 55 player rosters). There are plenty of average IOL guys he can try to bump from the roster.
IMO, Jennings will have the toughest path to stick, especially if Hurd and Taylor are/stay 100% healthy. Samuel, and Aiyuk, Bourne are making the team. Hurd and Taylor will both make the team, if they are healthy. With one or two spots left, he'd need to beat out Pettis and James, which isn't impossible, but it could be pretty hard if Pettis actually rises to the challenge.
