i dont think pec tears are career ending. He should be back to full strength and Greenlaw will get alot of starting experience and should be ready to backup Kwon next year and take over in 2021 or 2022. But if Greenlaw falls flat on his face, then we can revisit this topic

Kwon Alexander will be 26 yrs old next season; Fred Warner will be 24.

I wouldn't even consider drafting a stack LB until day 3 unless it's glaringly BPA.

LasVegasWally, I think this is a good thread topic. In today's NFL, you need speed & impact players at LB to keep up with these offenses - that type of quality LB isn't easy to find and also is often a lighter guy who maybe can take a pounding over the course of a season & playoffs. Or, maybe not and thus, you need quality depth if you can get it/draft it.

The Niners have done an excellent job of addressing the DL and are set there (just need to re-up a few guys)...at LB, I'd definitely want the team to consider drafting another quality guy (hoping Greenlaw continues to develop and shows he can make plays). I'm not a big fan of guys like Nzeocha or E. Lee getting any kind of extended playing time, especially against good teams & in the playoffs. We'll see what Al-Shaair can bring but he's also just a rookie - he could be a bright spot given his college production.

I don't have time to also follow college football too closely so I'm not as aware of the better LBs coming out next draft that could thrive in this team's scheme. I'd also be interested if anyone can offer a few names to watch as this college season progresses.

Some good Sam backer fits coming out that could be had on day 3. I don't expect the 9ers to sit pat so there will be draft picks acquired.

The following info on a possible LB prospect to fit what the Niners do is courtesy of Phoenix49ers (thanks Phoenix!). I need to watch Simmons more closely because it sounds like he's a playmaker - I like the bold part, especially about his versatility:

Isaiah Simmons-LB-Clemson-I know right now the 49ers have Warner and Alexander but if either regresses or if Alexander continues to be plagued by injury issues then Simmons would be an intriguing addition to this defense. I think he'd be the perfect weakside LB, a guy who can fly around the field, tackle, punish ballcarriers as well as drop back in coverage with no problem, he'd be another star level prospect that they could add. This is a big-time, big-game player that provides a lot of versatility in where you can move him on defense. Might not be the biggest need but man could he be a weapon.

I hope 9ers can trade down pick up more picks and draft better LB depth. Hopefully Dre Greenlaw can make me forget about this post.

I think you can never have too much depth. LB is a position we could use some more depth in. We'll see if the guys we have now can hold up in Kwon's absence. I do not know enough about the top college LB's or have the time to research it, but I respect our FO's ability to find us some good ones.

1st rd pick will either be used to trade back and recoup picks or an O-Lineman, S or WR will be the pick, the best fit at LB would be Troy Dye out of Oregon but he's going in the top 50 IMO, a couple players that as of now who would be there in the 4-7th I like are Leo Lewis out for MSU, KJ Britt out of Auburn, my biggest sleeper is TJ Brunson from South Carolina,

Agree. I don't think this team has any glaring holes, and we can truly go for BPA. This draft should be all about depth. Great position to be in.
