Fullbacks

Agreed. Need vision, technique, etc. Just wondering/hoping that it's something that could be developed in a back on the roster so we'd have options beyond Juice.

And size, which Wilson will never have. The TE/FB from the preseason looked promising and I think we have him on our practice squad

Fullback is not a popular position in college offenses. The best option is to take a TE and make them into a FB. It will be easy to find a good blocker but not one that also can run and catch.

That is what Juice was in college.

Harvard football may not compete at the highest level collegiately, but every year, players from Crimson coach Tim Murphy's program garner interest from the highest level professionally, the National Football League.

This year, senior tight end Kyle Juszczyk has been receiving a lot of pro attention and could become the first Harvard football player to be selected by a team in the NFL draft since quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick '05.

According to NFL.com's Gil Brandt, Juszczyk projects as a late-fifth or sixth round pick. Fitzpatrick was selected by the Rams in the fifth round of the 2005 draft.

Juszczyk, who was a two-time FCS All-American at tight end, has decided to make the transition to fullback, where his toughness and blocking ability will be more suited to the pro game. ESPN Insider and draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. considers Juszczyk to be the No. 1 fullback in this year's draft class.

During his career, Juszczyk was named to three All-Ivy teams and was a member of the 2011 Ivy League-champion Crimson. He leaves Harvard in the top-ten all-time in career receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.

Juszczyk demonstrated his strength and speed at Harvard's Mar. 14 Pro Day, where Juszczyk, Ivy League MVP quarterback Colton Chapple, All-Ivy running back Treavor Scales, All-Ivy guard John Collins, All-Ivy defensive end John Lyon, and All-Ivy punter Jacob Dombrowski, as well as nine other non-Harvard players, worked out for 15 NFL teams.

The 6'1", 248-pound fullback/tight end tallied 24 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press and clocked a 4.77 40-yard dash

You don't need the fastest guy just a high football IQ player that is tough as nails with some decent hands.

One player to keep an eye on is Connor Slomka out of West Point. He's a throwback fullback, nothing flashy about him but he is always playing at top end intensity whether as a blocker or a runner. Smart player that is tougher than a $1.99 steak on afternoon special at a stripclub. I can see him being on the radar of both the Patriots and 49ers.

^ The Army screwed the last two guys that I remember being drafted. This was probably ten years ago, but they originally said they'd let them play in the NFL while serving at recruiting stations only to revoke that rule post draft and force them to serve 2 years at a regular duty station before being allowed to transfer to the reserves and sign an NFL contract. I have no idea what the current rules are.

Interesting post.

Maybe they can find someone to groom behind Juice?

Extend Juice 2 more years and draft another "juice" to back him up and groom (like we shudda did when Juice was in draft!!!)

True. This thread just shows how much we are searching now. Looking to develop a backup FB. Good times!!
if we have a 2021 FB thread please throw in there

FBs? No. That skillset hasn't existed since Mike Alstot.

One that can block/catch, sure, im sure there some TEs that can do that.

Uh, yes please
Looks like this thread is redundant!

They should still look for a fullback to groom. Juice is 30 years old with a bunch of neck injuries and concussions. Who knows how long he'll last. Plus, if you can find someone to replace him in the near future, that's money saved.

While I agree with the sentiment, it's probably going to have to be a UDFA, we won't carry 2 fullbacks so it's practice squad, and if we get anyone with any promise they'll get signed away.
