AZ's decision appears to be hire the coach who tutored Mahommes in college, and NOT hire the undersized QB who has gotten so much press as the potential #1 player to be taken in draft.
Also explains why PHX has been so adamant that we take Q. Consensus around the league's talking heads is Q = Bosa talentwise, hence why PHX obviously has come out last few days in favor of Q in 16 days. Also , Q passes the eye test for that position.
Only question for me is : does an impressive interior DT , by far the best in draft, fit us better than one of the two best ERs in draft who happens to be a LB, not a DE, Allen. For me, this is the question we have to answer. The fact GM/HC are saying for us Bosa is our obvious pick , means that they don't expect to get him. Usually they blow lots of smoke about right now just before draft.
The thing i could see more likely with Bosa going to AZ is that we look to trade down. I can see how adding yet one more interior DT to the roster(Q) when we desperately need ERs, could lead to us having to cut some of our current DTs, whereas an ER (eg Allen) could get us that 2nd ER. We have a great start with Dee Ford, but he is a LB, not a DE (altho that is his designation now).
I could also see us getting Allen at #4 plus a 2nd tier DE with Trade up before pick #36. To get our #2 pick in the draft, somebody is going to have to come up with another 1st rd or a pair of 2nd rd picks, and that's where we get our 2nd tier DE. Gruden sure looks like the likely guy to go to.
Doc, the HC of AZ *loves* Kyle Murray, he's tried to recruit him out of high school. The GM hired Kiff for his offensive wizardry and ability to put points on the board. When your HC says he wants a QB, and *you* hired him, are you going to reject that? Keep in mind that same GM, rejected another similar request from a previous HC which left the organization because he wouldn't draft the QB he wanted and left? That Coach the GM lost had a .62% winning average and took AZ twice to the playoffs. So, I think there is a very good probability that Murray is a Cardinal in a few weeks.
