Jachai Polite, EDGE, Florida

I want an Aldon clone - 6'4", 260 lb. or so. I don't remember exactly what he weighed, but someone that type.

Nick Bosa is the closest thing to Aldon in this draft.

Shorter guys in general are a little quicker since they have shorter legs. Taller guys usually have longer arms which can help knock down passes and maybe reach the QB easier. As far as power I don't see any real advantage for a taller guy over a shorter guy. Bottom line is can the guy play.

Properly defending the run takes 11 guys, it's weak as the weakest, you can't have those issues on your front 7.

I'm not saying Polite would be that weaklink, inconsistent is not poor, but it's something to think about.

I don't even think Polite is poor though. From the film I watched, he looked pretty good. Especially when the play is run to the opposite side.

His motor is certainly not an issue, I have seen him rip away from an OT with violent hands and make a tackle.

It might be lazy scouting from the guy pointing out his lack of length. I'm yet to really see it but I'll definitely keep an eye on it.

Is it just me or did Polite look like he got lighter later in the season? Dude looked tiny vs FSU. Maybe I'm seeing things.

Right?! Maybe he was sick? I don't know what it is, but he looks tiny. If I had to guess, given his height, he looks about in the 240's in that game.

If we sign Brandon Graham,this is perfectly acceptable. Polite would essentially have 2 full seasons to work to become a 3-down edge rusher. He checks all the boxes right now as a LEO, particular on 3rd down. If we don't have a shot at Bosa, I have no qualms going for Polite with a small trade down. It may suck having to use a high pick on a top-15 as opposed to top-5 player, but his impact on the rest of the team could be very far reaching if he can come in day 1 beating tackles. Thomas would go inside permanently if we can do this.
