Devin White, LB, LSU

I've been looking at White's film, and I think he is one of the most overrated prospects in this draft. There are parts of his game that are appealing, but he is not a top-flight prospect in this draft. My final grade on him will be as a late-second, early-third round prospect.

He is nowhere near the level of R. Smith and LVE, who I graded as the fourth and fifth best prospects last year.

Mad Dog, LB may not be the Niners top priority, but it's definitely a need. Are there any mid round LB prospects that you like yet?

I may think differently from some on this board, but see ILB as one of the key priorities for the team. I want the team to draft an anchor for the future at MLB, and have that person become the team captain and face of the defense for the next decade. I think this is a huge missing piece for the team.

I'll be honest: I am not thrilled with this crop of ILB's. Last year was the year to grab one, and we went for something else. Will continue to review (I am halfway through the top MLB prospects), but I am not seeing anything that jumps out at me so far. Maybe that will change.

I agree with you that ILB is a need for the team. It's a big piece in this defense. But I think Fred Warner has MLB on lock. The team needs a playmaker at WLB and I wouldn't mind at all the 49ers spending a day 2 pick for WLB this coming draft if there is a deserving prospect, and if it wasn't addressed in free agency.

What are your thoughts on Warner? What's his best fit?

I tend to agree. I think Warner was good for a rookie, but he seems like a #2 type inside. The KJ Wright or (healthy) Malcolm Smith to a Bobby Wagner (instinctive playmaker #1). Maybe I'm just spoiled by Willis and (healthy) Bowman.

MD - Are there any Josey Jewell types this year?

He needs to run clean. I still like him as a Will on base downs.

It is coming, although it is very early, and players are still declaring. Shrine, Senior Bowl, Combine and Campus workouts also play a role for me, so no complete board for awhile.

I really liked Jewell last year, but still had him down the board compared to Smith and LVE. He just doesn't have the same range. Jewell had a really solid rookie campaign, but these elite guys are pretty rare to find.

If I could morph some of these guys together: The tackling and intelligence of TJ Edwards, with the closing speed of Devin White, the ferocity and fearlessness of David Long, the relentlessness and leadership of Chase Hansen and the twitchiness of Dakota Allen = one helluva linebacker. Getting a guy who can do all of these things is super rare, something I saw in LVE last year, who I believed was the complete package. I just don't see one guy out there that is in the same league as Roquan or Leighton. I will keep looking.
I appreciate that he took the time to have this video done instead of just posting a graphic image or a writing paragraph.

Seems like a lot of people are trying to shoehorn him into some pretty lofty comparisons. But alas, this is the offseason.

I see. In that case, I don't know as well.
