I like Davenport - I hope he doesn't come back to bite.

I like both players. I like Landry just a tad better because of his production in college and has less unknowns about him. Davenport is raw and he's all potential and doesn't have the college production that Landry has. If New England offers two first round picks for our 9th pick, man that would be hard to pass up if I was the one making the decisions. but that would mean we might miss out on both Landry and Davenport.

For every good evaluation of Davenport you have several other guys saying he shouldn't be touched til the 2nd due to his tape. Potential is great but when player is so raw you're taking a serious chance that the potential is never met. And using a top 10 pick on a player like that is a serious risk.

Arik Armstead was more projection and potential than proven prospect and we've seen how he's done.

FWIW Davenport has put up 17.5 sacks and 27 TFL more then Armstead in there college careers.
With Vic Fangio looking for his Aldon Smith, Davenport might be in play at Bear's #8 spot.

I think that would be a great fit for Davenport.

I guess that's a no
IMO, not worth our #9 pick. Picking in the top ten means your picking a player who is ready to contribute right away to the team. Not a player who has all the physical traits but is still labeled as potential.

they played totally different positions in college..AA was a 3-4 DE and his job was to 2-gap and plug holes. He also played in the Pac 12 while Marcus played in Conference USA.

God I hope that happens
The best game tape analysis of Marcus Davenport I've found so far:

https://www.reddit.com/r/NFL_Draft/comments/8cmq4f/edge_rusher_comp_series_part_1_marcus_davenport/

It addresses Davenport's speed to power conversion, double teams, motor, shed, burst, hands, punch, double move in comparison to another player. The similarities are uncanny.

Aldon's technique and mental approach was lightyears ahead of Davenport's. He won in so many different ways by marrying his feet and hands. In fact, Aldon had some of the best hand technique, placement, and timing that I've ever seen. He didn't suffer from the leverage issues that plague Davenport. Aldon also had elite length(35 3/8"); Davenport has good length(33 5/8").

Is that rush in the Senior Bowl supposed to impress us? Davenport lands his hands on Brian O'Neill's facemask, which happens to be over his toes from reaching with that pathetically passive "punch." That play was more of an indictment of O'Neill than a nod to Davenport. Ugh, if the 49ers draft O'Neill, I hope he doesn't see the field until next year.

First of all lets get this out of the way, Davenport is not Aldon. Aldon is special, a specimen, if he didnt have any off the field problem, he's on his way to the Hall of Fame. One might say he had Justin Smith but that's for another debate.

Aldon was more polished, that's for sure. He went to Mizzou, a bigger college with better coaches.

What Davenport lack in arm length he will make up in athletism and lack of off-the-field issues. They both have the same 3 cone drill but a coach from Exossports (a training center that prepares NFL athletes) told me that in the 3 cone, you lose 0.10 seconds or more for every inch taller you are.
