Dante Pettis, WR, Washington

I like the kid a lot actually, i just dont view his role as an immediate need personally.

Hope he can come in and grow as a WR. He is a bit of a project at WR IMO.

Hopefully Lynch picks great players, because they really don't get good VALUE with their picks.

Should have waited for this pick to drop, ... just wasted #74
Lynch really needs to learn to work the draft better

2.44 - 460
5.142 - 34.5

Total - 494.5

2.59 - 310
3.74 - 220

Total- 530

Difference of 35.5 which is a high 5th

NCAA all time leader in punt returns. He averaged a rediculous 14.1 yards on punt returns in his career.

He is deadly and a game changer. He can flip the field in a heartbeat.

Plus he had 22 receiving TD's in his last two years with mediocre QB play.

Dont get me wrong, i like him A LOT. I just feel his role is not an immediate need, and a bit early, but i love Pettis, so i cant be overly mad with it.
He is clearly going to be used once a defense is spread out. I really like quick feet and quick hands. I don't really like his rout running. He seemed sloppy in some of his highlight reels, like there is a lot of wasted motion.

I absolutely think he can get open in the NFL though...he gets back to full stride so fast... I think his on and off speed routs are going to create separation. and he has a really explosive catching motion...he gets his hands up fast and grabs the ball, its not really fair to imply he "catches" since the ball is not doing any of the work...the dude seems to attack the ball. It kinda of reminds me of a basketball player, like he is going to catch and shoot.

The way he attacks the ball is uniquely good.

Project? Dude is one of tbe best route runners in the draft with great hands.

Didnt see the need in trading up and would have rather james Washington who is still here at what woulda been our pick...
Love the player. My only thought was i dont see it as a huge need.
HOWEVER, i dont see him as a replacement for Taylor. I see him as hopefully heir apparent to Garcon. He needs to work on his route precision a bit, but i think he can be real good with a year or two of solid development.
Good size, as well. Really attacks the football in the air.
Just a little rough on the edges with his routes. Thats his biggest area to work on.

The trade of picks is fine. It's who they picked that's a head scratcher. By all counts Pettis was a 3rd-4th round guy. Doesn't seem necessary to reach that high.

Before anyone says, "well he was their guy," there are A LOT of good players in this very deep draft. Doesn't make sense to fall in love with 1-2 guys and then overpay for them.
Pettis arguably the best route runner in the draft. It's him or Ridley. Go to page one

So pumped that he's a 49er.
This is from a spring UW combine in 2016. Love the 4.39 40 and 41" Vert. I know this was hand timed, but they also had John Ross at a 4.25 40, which turned out to be fairly accurate. Figured I'd post this since Pettis didn't work out with the ankle injury.

And I think with his speed and lateral agility, he may be used like Gabriel in Atlanta? Folks with more WR/football knowledge please chime in! I also agree with another poster that since he's a bit bigger than Goodwin and Taylor, maybe he's the heir apparent to Garcon.

NFL.com compared him to Housh.

Not bad.

This He's going to give us a short field due to his special team play as well something we really could use. All 3 phases!! Like where this is going

In his video clip on the news page he said he was a big fan of Backstreet Boys AJ. The team is going to roast this rook good this year in dress up and performances.
I absolutely LOVE pettis as a receiver, but damn its depressing to know we could have easily snagged Isaiah Oliver, Fred Warner, and Josh Sweat

Austin's his brother. His father, Gary Pettis, was a gold glove center fielder. So, good bloodlines.

California Angels I believe
Really nice WR for our scheme, I'm a little gutted it wasn't Miller, but happy with Pettis
