Ricardo Allen. Meh. 2 years ago, 49th ranked safety. Last year, 37th. Can Ward be at least that? Possibly. Is that what we're looking forward to?

If Ward lights it up and shocks us all in a week, and convinces the coaching staff that he's got what it takes to be our Single High FS, then Hooker's need Plummets. A lot of interesting things the coaches will hopefully be able to ascertain:

  • Can Ward be our Single High FS?
  • Does AA look like he's our starting 3T/5T?
  • Does Lynch look like our "Elephant", or more like an elephant?
  • Does Mitchell look like he can man the 1T NT?

I don't know how much they'll be able to see from the offseason workouts, but if they could get answers to any of those questions, it'd be huge.

Actually he was the 23rd ranked safety this yr (per PFF) and 12th overall in coverage...if we're talking about FS who can cover and not be a monster in run support (which is what hooker is currently) those are pretty good rankings...I will add Ward was a very solid in run support as a S in college...He was a more consistent tackler then hooker.

It will be interesting to see what happens, but I think we are set at FS with Ward.

I'm seeing 37. But that's overall (including SS). You seeing something different, or specifically FS maybe?

I see Hooker as a top End safety, vying for the #1 spot in a couple years.

I agree with most of your argument, but this point is ridiculous. I can find examples of FBs and kickers who had more productive careers than Jamarcus Russell. That's not a reason to pick a FB or K at #1.

Even if there are a couple safeties in history who would be a top 5 pick in their draft in a re-draft, there's no guarantee that Hooker becomes one of them.

I'm on board with either Solomon Thomas or Malik Hooker in this particular draft. In most drafts, they wouldn't even be in consideration for the #2 pick though.

Both Berry and McCoy are top rated at their position so the bust factor doesn't factor in. Yes, Berry has more talent around him but I can name 4 all time D's with a s as 1 of their top 2 players. You're going to have a hard time doing that with fullback without going into the 70's. People need to stop underrating the position. If there was an elite one grab em.

Nah he's tied for 23rd and that's overall not just FS.

But even if he was, I'm pretty sure you're still against drafting him at 2.

I'm not a scout but he doesn't pass my eye test as a Reed, Troy P, Berry. I could be wrong but you expect a lot better tackling.

Not sure, I'm going right off of PFF's paid site he's got 83.4 in coverage and 73.4 in run...sounds like the writer in that article got it wrong.

He's got Neal wrong as well

I'm gonna use the actual sites numbers

Wonder if yours includes post season. But either way, the official site is def the better resource. I'm too cheap and just google search.

Agreed...Nelson is a fair comp IMO which isn't worth a top two pick

Bah it's like $19 bucks a yr lol

Nope I wanted to move up for Berry back in 2010...I didn't think he'd go top 5 though

I'm still pissed they changed the pay content. I had no problems paying for their old setup but they nerfed it pretty hard.

I preferred the old format...I also liked to see what players did in previous seasons
I find the most interesting updates as we get close to the draft is which players are being discussed. A month ago, all the traffic was Trubisky, then it was Thomas, and now it seems to be Hooker...
