Why?
I increasingly feel this is the pick if the Browns go with Garrett at #1 (as it increasingly looks like they will). I can't see teams vaulting all the way to #2 for a QB (the only reason for finding a trade down partner), and I can't see us drafting one of them ourselves.
I fear the Stanford connection between Lynch N this dude will tempt him to take him at #2 spot. That would be such a disaster because if Lynch N Co. like this dude they can surely trade down & acquire additional picks N still draft their man if he does indeed become their guy.

I love when people say crap like this. Says who? Plenty of people think this kid is a special talent. Which team doesn't need pass rushers?

QBs and pass rushers, most impactful positions in the NFL and you think drafting arguably the 2nd best rusher in the class behind Garrett is a disaster?

All i am saying we DONT have to reach, i am fine if we draft him just dont reach at #2 even trading down a couple of spots as long as we get something in return.

BTW thanks for acknowledging my gift

He was a top 10 pick BEFORE the combine. He's a top 5 now. That's not reaching.

You're welcome Gandalf.

And the point is who says it's a reach? Hell you posted a link to the cbs mock draft, they have Thomas as the #2 guy in the class. Is it a reach to think he'd be drafted at #2 by a team with a need for pass rushers?

I thought we could trade down and draft him before and would absolutely love if somehow that could come to fruition but his tape and the combine scream top 5 pick. He would not be a reach.

The only question the team has is is anyone close to him on their board enough to warrant a trade down. This draft appears to be stacked with pass rushers so that would be the only reason I could think to pass on him with Garrett off the board. But if we're unable or unwilling to trade down and we aren't sold on any of these QBs then Thomas makes the most sense to me.

im pretty sure the bears will take either Thomas, Hooker, or Adams. Fangio does not put a lot of value into the secondary so i think he will try to convince the FO office to get him his own justin smith

He's being mocked 3 or 4. And a few have him 5-10 still. That ain't reaching at all. It's just being smart and assuring you get the best guy for your team.

It's not like there are teams trying to make Wentz/Goff trades. People are holding out hope for a situation where some team decides to give us a s**t load of picks. I'd like it too but it's a dream. Nobody on jets or bills or bears forums are talking about trading the whole future for our number 2 pick. Only people talking about it is our forum members haha.
If recent analysis/mocks matter, he'll be a 1st rd pick. But, he's not a #2 pick, IMHO. That'd be reserved for Garrett if the Browns stub their tow or decide they'd better take Trubisky with their 1st pick and not chance him being gone by #12. Of course, they could trade up from #12 to get him, but I'm hoping they go ahead and take a QB #1. The point here is Thomas is a terrific player, but I don't see Lynch taking him that early. That's just my gut...all we have to go on is the guys he's signed as FA's. I can see Garrett as our LEO...not so sure about Thomas. That said, Barnett had numbers well above both Garrett & Thomas...like 19 TFL, 13 sacks, 2 FF, 5 passes broken up & 1 pick.

In college. Can't just go drafting off college production with nothing else.

I mentioned this before and nobody has been able to tell me why Barnett would be a better fit when at a lighter weight he's not showing the same athletic ability as Thomas?

And not sure what you mean by recent analysis/mocks when he's been a first round lock since he declared for the draft. His combine numbers just showed everyone what was evident on tape...that the guy is an athletic freak who moves scary well for someone his size.

I really don't understand why everyone is so freaked out by his size and the fact that he's played inside as if that automatically means he can't handle playing outside.

Recent mocks have him number 3 and 4. If not him then who else? Does it make sense to draft a safety at number 2 when we have 3 battling for being starters, all while have no pass rushers? Or should we really draft a cornerback? That all seems silly.
Yeah I am tired of people saying we should trade down a few spots because so and so player isn't worth a number 2 pick. First of all, you may not have a trade partner who makes it worthwhile to drop a few spots, plus no guarantee the guy you really want will still be there. Also, these guys will knock the number 2 pick someone suggests but not say who they would take if we stay at number 2 (Garrett most likely will be gone). For me, Thomas would be fine. Biggest need left on our team (other than qb) is a pass rusher.
