I don't think there is one spot across the line he didn't play including over the Nose, 3T, 5T, 6 or 7T, and even out in wide 9. There are several clips of him rushing from the outside and he looks pretty good to me from there overall. Shows good initial burst after the snap, bull rushes well, up and under move, speed rush, etc. Pretty darn good for someone who has mostly been inside. I don't think there's any question he's our guy unless we get some sucker team to trade up with us.

Objectively, he's not so hot in double teams but who cares, it frees others up. He can stunt out of holes leaving big holes. He's far far more effective inside. Often times he blows up field AA-style and completely leaves a gaping hole. He has nice closing speed and hustle. Took a few plays off. He lines up a lot at LDE with the usual inside rush. I like that his feel gets better as the game progresses and he gets better as the game goes on. Dude is unblockable inside. Truly. You can toggle him between LDE/5T and RDT/3T but I'll tell you what, I'd put him at 3T and just say, "Here is your gap...go eff someone up. Put the fear of God in them."

We'll agree to disagree on some of the assessment but I think we can agree that he's a valuable player overall and brings even more value in sub packages which is the primary D these days.

The first 5 plays he does a great spin move but whiffs on a side step, is effectively blocked out in the run game and then gets lower and powers to a run stop. This isn't a criticism at all. These are the same exact criticisms of AA and more of a sign of a young talented player that will need coaching at the next level and will get better and better, like Buckner, with more NFL snaps. Overall I thought he was very disruptive. I actually don't think they used him to his fullest strengths TBH. He could be dynamic in our scheme over time.

Rather no go qb early at all...the options are much better next yr imo

Yeah but I hear that every year.

We haven't been in a spot to draft a top end qb and this draft is weak sauce as far as the position goes at the top imo...we're looking at Rosen, Darnold, Allen, Faulk, Rudolph and possibly cousins/Jimmy G/stafford/brees as FAs next yr.

If we are going qb early then that means we're committed to them for the foreseeable future...I'd rather get a developmental qb in the mid rds and go hard for a big fish next yr.

Yeah, I think I'd rather wait until next year, too.

Mahomes is better player but is rising fast and will costs more to trade back into 1st to secure him.

If Kyle sees someone he likes in 2nd or 3rd, I'd prefer that. Then, he could hold a clipboard for a year and be ready to go next year, rather than waiting yet another. Ultimately, I feel great having Kyle in charge, and trust whatever he decides. It's great to finally have confidence in a QB evaluator!

Well, you maybe right but every year I hear that next year's haul will be better. And then when they get put under the microscope, all we hear is that the year after's haul will be better. I can't see Jimmy G being let loose unless he is a disappointment and we can't build a future on the chance that Cousins will maybe join us. And Brees! Like Romo he isn't going anywhere until he is finished or nearly finished.

Some of this year's QB crop will succeed. And with Shanahan and Hoyer, we are pretty close to being an ideal venue for a draft pick to make it.

So here is the choice. This year we pick #2. Next year with our new coaches and FAs, we pick lower. Maybe 10 places lower. This year either with #2 or by trading up with the second rounder, we can get pretty much who we want. Next year, to trade up to get who we want will probably cost us a fortune, like last year's first two picks.

That's my view anyway. I guess in a month's time we will see what Shanahan and Lynch think.
Justin Smith weighed 267 lbs when drafted
Bryant Young was only ~~275 when drafted? ??

Maybe Soloman can put on a few lbs if the 49ers take him

That's fair, but sometimes you just have to see that there very well might not be a FQB in the draft because that does happen. I got no problem drafting and developing a mid rd guy (like they did with Kirk) but I'd be bummed if they passed on more pro-ready talent because they overvalued a qb and drafted strictly based on need...it would be much different if they were handed a more talented team like Harbs got but it's far from that.

I don't recall this time last yr anyone saying next yrs class was gonna be better, facts are the class overall will be much better (based on seniors talent level and hell another Mitch might pop out of nowhere)and sure not every FA is gonna become a FA but there are options...I don't see NE paying both Brady and tagging Jimmy G do you? It's real looking like Kirk is in his last yr there and if you have a chance to get a top 10 guy like that I'm waiting.

We will see in a month

If he becomes our next B young or justin smith I have no idea how people could complain about picking him lol

Speaking in hypotheticals. Of course people wouldn't complain if that were to happen. Although I'm sure someone will find a way to complain about something.

Man, that would be so awesome to get a dominant force again like one of those two dudes.
