Great points by all. Edge rusher is the type of position I think a team can reach, and have it justified. The 49ers shouldn't be picking top10 for awhile so this could be their best chance to pick a top edge prospect. I do value ILB in this scheme though. Must have LBs that limit RAC on short throws over the middle. Roquan also has leadership traits from what I've read. I'd be happy with either player.

Agreed. End of the day smith or Landry work for me

Me too! In fact I would be fine with those two as well as Nelson, Chubb, Barkley, Fitzpatrick, or Ward. All of them fill major holes on the team and have the potential to be elite players. The only two that I really hope we don't draft, that are projected top 10 players, are Edmunds and Davenport.

If Lynch/Peters value college production (which it seems like they do, having Garrett, Thomas, and Foster as the top 3 prospects in last years draft) then I will probably be happy with whomever they draft at 9 and which is why I am also hoping they don't trade out of the pick.

Which is why Baalke will pick Edmunds.

Sorry! PTSD moment. All good now!

Whoa buddy, you may need to take a self-timeout for that one.

So we're supposed to listen to people who think Tartt is our answer at FS?!

My first thought too. Come on man!

Played pretty well at FS when Ward went down for like what two games? Colbert imo showed he can rock the FS and them not bringing back Reid shows tartt is that SS. Toss in ward who can play both positions if need be and were fine at safety.

Don't forget Chancellor James. He looked good before the injury. SS only, though.

Oh he did fine but they didn't even mention the real FS who was Colbert. Tartt had to fill in a FS for a moment due to injury and out of necessity. The rest of it was fine.
First I would like to say that this has been the most reasonable thread discussion on both sides in a while so...no way we go after Landry then I guess.

But for the last few posts that bring up good players at Safety or Corner or even Linebacker, again I feel like they are at least upgrading players that are already on the team. Who do we have that LEGITIMATELY can provide sacks?
Why can I clearly hear John Lynch at the post day-one presser in my head...

"We strongly believe the player you saw in 2016 is the one we're getting. We loved Harold before the combine, and his numbers further corroborated how we felt. We think he provides us with the missing link to our line and to getting after the quarterback."

No one.

We drafted Beathard in the 3rd mainly because of his 2015 tape in his junior year, so Shanalynch has proved they will place importance in quality play outside of the most recent season if there is reason to.

I think ILB with Foster's situation and Malcom Smith coming off an ACL, and CB with Sherman coming off an achilles and no one else on the roster that can play outside are just as glaring needs as an edge rusher.

Smith didn't tear his ACL, it was a torn pec not even close to the same inury

Edge is by far the most important need.
