Technically he'd still be competing with Williams + a 3rd/ 4th rounder where the Shanny's typically get their guards.

Don't agree that we need a day 1 starter even though I think Williams can handle guard.

Staley, Garnett, Jensen, Fusco, Brown will do fine. There's plenty of options available to us.

Yeah we need upgrades. Garnett has not showed that he can be reliable. We have to create some strong competition on the line. Sign a guy, draft a guy high and in the mid rounds. Resign Fusco as a backup

Well Phoenix dont be surprised if thats already the plan with Garnett if not possibly him even sliding yo C if that's been somen hes been working at. Were not behind the scenes so we dont know the discussions.

Lynchahan know wassup.. The painting might not even be 1/3 painted.

If that is the plan then they are messing up, like counting on an aging center from Baltimore this past offseason. I recall being pretty skeptical about that move as well.

Anything Garnett can give you should be considered a bonus. If he's a Baalke bust(TM)then they should be prepared to still have a high quality OL group with zero contribution from him.

Given the cap space plus interior OL depth in the draft, I would hope they find themselves with the happy problem of having too many good OL rather than not enough.

I feel you...but we dont know how Josh is even looking. He good be looking and coming along great in the system. So to say its a mistake is a reach imo.

Last off season we had to see what we had already as well.

Diffence is josh is what 9 yrs younger than Zuttah so it's not really the same. I also recall Kyle wanted ATL to draft josh last yr (read that somewhere).

I can't see them moving him to C, but to say he's a bust is kinda jumping the gun imo. Imagine if Pitt did the same thing to david decastro?

Without doubt SF should upgrade the interior...we don't have a starting center and Kilgore is a FA, plus we need good competition at OG.
I see Garnett as this years Arik Armstead. He's there, we can all hope he's a stud moving forward but we should pretend he's not actually on the roster. If we have too many possible starters is a problem I'm good with.
What I can't understand is the people who want to draft a RB cus Hyde can't stay healthy, but here Garnett has never done anything or been healthy, but we should put trust in him. I hope he pans out, of course, but if you want a healthy RB, it starts with good run blocking.

Could be looking good how? Because he hasn't had a meaningful snap of actual football since last year. He can't practice with the team, the only major revelation is that he is somewhat less chubby now. I think it would be a mistake to proceed as if he is going to be anything more than depth.

Once again, better to have more good talent than you need than to not have enough because you assume Garnett can be a starter and suddenly it turns out that no, he really does suck and now you're scrambling to protect your $24 million QB. That would be a nightmare that is entirely avoidable.
I think it's a mistake to solely bet on Garnett as well but like AA this year he'll get a shot at 1 of the guard spots. By shot I mean he'll start no matter what. He's too high of a pick to just to give up on.

All im saying is... Is if in OTAs hes lining up with the starters then dont be surprised if he keeps the job and it changes our draft approach.

Im not worrying cause new regime has shown that theyre gonna be like, "were gonna start Josh next year no ifs and or butts"...

Signing Malcolm Smith, having Ray-Ray AND STILL trading up for Reueben for example tells me even if Josh projects to be a starter theyll probs draft someone as an instant push starter.

Were all pretty much on the same page. I cant wait for OTAs in March! Thank god they're before the draft so regime can fully see and diagnose how they wanna approach the draft and different positions.

He was a healthy scratch for the bowl game. Preparing for the NFL draft.

Have any legitimate analysts provided a breakdown of his ability to play guard?

Not that I know, but FWIW, his biggest knock seems to be lack of functional core strength.
