Does he have any injuries to be concerned about??

Not to my knowledge he played balls to the wall in his final game in college.

Barnett kind of reminds me of "extra motivated Ahmad Brooks."

That would be a great pick

If we trade down, he'd be an excellent pick up.

If we get Ingram in FA then I feel we'll definitely go in another direction

I'd rather address QB in fa and draft OLB but I'd be happy either way
CBS Sports draft analyst Rob Rang wrote that Tennessee DE Derek Barnett is "a more polished defender than even the top-rated [Texas A&M edge rusher Myles] Garrett."

"While perhaps lacking in pure explosiveness, Barnett varies his attack, incorporating quickness, power and refined technique to wreak havoc against both the run and pass," Rang notes, adding that "[t]hose close to the program rave about his work ethic." While these are all positives, there is not a consensus as to the 6-foot-3, 267-pounder's NFL potential. On a mid-January conference call, ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. forwarded the belief that unless he excels at the Combine later this month, he would not be deserving of a selection in the first half of Round 1. In a similar vain, one scout said (also in January) that "some [evaluators] just don't think he'll be able to translate those [stellar collegiate numbers] to the pros because he's not very explosive off the ball." Rang ranks Barnett as his No. 12 prospect in this draft class.

He definitely has more pass rush moves than Garrett, that's for sure.
I have no problem with him being the number 2 pick

Combine what he does do with work ethic and you could have something, since he lacks the overall explosiveness. It's what put Jerry Rice above more talented receivers. Where does Barnett rank in regards to that?
It's a big deal that he broke Reggie White's sack record as a Vol, and in one less season. He's the real deal, more production against SEC competition than Garret too. He had more tackles for loss too.

I don't think it's that big of a deal because of how much passing college teams do these days and how many mobile QBs exist(easier to get sacks against them)

He's a quality player though no question. Just don't think he's a great fit for a 3-4 D.

Sounds like we aren't gonna have a 3-4 now

If that is the case I'd still rather the 49ers take Solomon Thomas over Barnett. The upside and explosiveness is hard to turn down.

without question Solomon is a monster. just confused on how this 4-3 would look with our current personnel? need LBs and I don't see AA Buck as 4-3 edge guys plus sticking them inside to stuff the run

Yea this is going to be interesting to watch b/c I agree with you. I don't see where AA fits in at all in a 4-3. At least Buck hustles and plays hard.

Imo if we switched to a 4-3 itd set back our rebuild by at least 1:year more likely 2.. we really don't have the tools to go to 4-3 we would need to get rid of good young players because they just wouldn't fit well

4-3 under is basically a 3-4, with one of the OLBs putting his hand in the dirt. Carroll's scheme is pretty much what he ran here, with more variation in coverage/pressures.
