A QB worth keeping an eye on throughout the season. This is his first year as a starter and he is leading in several passing categories, has largely looked pretty good this season including a terrific comeback win against Pitt. He comes with decent size at 6'3", has added some bulk during his time at North Carolina and also has the athleticism to take off and run with the football if needed. He has thrown 203 consecutive passes without an interception, the longest current streak in the nation. The offense that North Carolina runs is quite similar to Chip Kelly's offense, its a frantic, one-back up-tempo spread offense that utilizes the no huddle a lot. I'll take the Tar Heels entire WR group as well, incredibly well coached group, excellent route runners with outstanding hands(1 drop all season long). Ryan Switzer is one to watch for sure. Ryan Switzer was so exhausted he compared the drive to an out-of-body experience. Their quarterback though? Mitch Trubisky was cool as a cucumber. "There was not one time when we thought he was nervous or we thought the stage was too big for him," Switzer said. "He was even-keeled the entire time. I think I even got a smile out of him." What's not to smile about? Trubisky is riding high after four games and, with apologies to that guy getting all the headlines at Louisville, he might be the country's hottest quarterback. Let's start with that game-winning drive. North Carolina needed 17 gut-wrenching plays to march 63 yards. It wasn't a thing of beauty. It was a deliberate, gritty, physical performance. On the drive, Trubisky completed three different throws on fourth-and-6 or longer, converting all for a first down. That's an insane statistic, really. Over the past 10 years, only one other Power 5 quarterback has converted more fourth-down throws in the fourth quarter of a one possession game in an entire career. "I wasn't really thinking about it," Trubisky said. "Just thinking about getting the first down, knowing the situation, trying to communicate. We just made it happen." That drive was Trubisky battling, but so much of the past three games have been easy. Trubisky started last week's contest by completing his first 12 throws, which ran his streak of consecutive completions to 30. That was a school record. Overall this season, he's completed 74.5 percent of his throws, second nationally, despite the fact that he has thrown more deep balls (passes of 20 yards or more in the air) than all but nine other Power 5 quarterbacks.

Nope, missed that. Throws are throws though and he's made some nice ones into tight coverage. He's a rookie. The game doesn't appear to be too big for him. I think everyone knew he'd have a steep learning curve year 1.

Almost had a pick, fell on a handoff, and basically threw dump offs...it's about as conclusive as what he does against backups no?

He did have a nice deep pass in the 4th qr

That deep pass nice with out question...they been playing it safe with him imo with all these quick dump offs. He had a horrible pass in double coverage vs the 1st string that should have been INTed but the guy dropped it. I want to see how he does when he gets blitzed and teams start rolling about their real defensive schemes. I've never doubted his arm talent or accuracy.

Glennon had better throws then he did today vs better comp imo.

Bear fans have to be happy with what they've seen from Mitch though.

That TD pass was nice. He has a good feel in the pocket too. Some not so good throws and almost got picked off. Overall quite a good game from Trubisky. I would be excited about his future if I was a Bears fan.

The TD pass was nice but most QBs with no pressure on them can hit those. Props to him for connecting but on that particular play there was nobody around him. Plus that defense made Mike Glennon look good ;)

Trubisky is definitely showing good things though. I still think it would be best for his long term success to hold him back for a bit. Bears OL is pretty good but not sure rushing him out there would be wise.

Agreed. The good thing is that he should be hitting those throws perfectly and he is. I definitely agree that he should sit and wait a year until starting though. I think the Bears would be wise to invest in a top WR in Free Agency/Draft next year and then let him loose. He's actually in a good situation there with a solid run game there too.

He has shown enough for Bears fans to be excited about him. Definitely not crowning him a Franchise QB yet though.

Drafted: by the Chicago Bears, Round 1, No. 2 overall.
Preseason analysis: Trubisky has been outstanding in the preseason. He's thrown with timing, accuracy and touch. He's shown plenty of arm strength to drive the ball and looks comfortable working through progressions from inside the pocket. He's also shown impressive athleticism, throwing on the move or picking up free yards with his legs when the opportunities arise.
Areas for improvement: I don't think there's a lot to criticize, based on his play in the preseason. He did miss a couple of easy underneath throws and will occasionally lock on his first read, but the good has far outweighed the bad. The biggest thing he needs: more game reps.
Expectations for rookie season: Veteran Mike Glennon will have a grip on the starting job to begin the season, but I would be surprised if Trubisky didn't take the reins by the halfway mark of 2017. When he does ultimately get the nod, I believe Trubisky will play well. Chicago has a strong offensive line and run game, which will limit the offensive burden on the rookie passer.
