With any luck, we won't be drafting No.2 overall again, this will be our ONE and ONLY chance we have to really go for a top QB prospect without having to trade the entire farm away to get to the guy.

The team is barren now and will take a while to rebuild it. Be patient, don't panic and don't fall for the common mistake of trading down to go for quantity as opposed to quality. The key to success is to rebuild the team methodically starting with a nucleus of solid impact players instead of gambling on a bunch of scrubs who can't even get onto the 53, that was essentially what Baalke did.

To give a team any chance, first of all you must have a legit signal caller.

Don't bother gambling with mid-rounder QBs, unless we are drafting 2 x QBs to get us totally covered.

Stay focused. Remember the new motto Quality Over Quantity!! And we will get there in good time!!

If you took a guy at #2 who was projected as a 2nd rounder, you'd be fired in 2-3 years.

None of these guys are #2overall pick calber QBs so why would a team so barren of talent do something as stupid as picking a guy so ridiculously high because they have a #2 pick? This makes absolutely no sense.

Teams fall in love with QBs being the face of the franchise and set their organizations back 5,10, 15 years chasing QBs. You want a list of desperate teams picking QBs way too high and paying for it? 9ers are one. Jags another (twice). Vikings, Bills, Texans, Rams, etc

I hope Kyle and Lynch do the smart thing and pick a QB where he should be picked and not obscenely high to appease a delusional fanbase.

And of all people. A #2 on Trubisky who hasn't even looked good? . Reputable sources are even saying he's going to fall but you want him at 2?

Keep thinking a QB makes a team.

He's 23 he's not some old vet man, there is no reason to cut him off 700 snaps that's a dumb way to run your team...on a cheap rookie contract.

Give it a rest...coming to conclusions on a player wth less then a yrs worth of film and injuried his whole 2nd yr

Instant gratification generation smh

This! We send a young talented player out the door because why? Last I saw we weren't in playoff mode lol...it's was clear as day he was raw but talented yet fans want instant production derp.

This is a f**king rebuild at the highest level and you want young talent on cheaper end contracts.

For a guy who does not see/know QB talent, I would make same comment over and over again- or simply scared that my real team has no chance of picking Mitchell, because Shanny will pick this guy. As he already said, he looks for QB with "Natural" arm talent/thrower (which includes arm strength).

Review Shannon's ideal QB and Mitch T. is the 100% mold! Watch the other QBs this year and no way they are smart with the football. They are slow to read the defenses and their ball placements would take many years to correct!!

Gary Polo = Mallet = other Billecheats QBs whose name is NOT Tom Brady! People who want 49ers to fail again would campaign for Garopoolo - LOL!

What are you talking about? Trubisky 2nd rounder? You are talking out of your rear end. And you think John Lynch will be fired? You are out of your frigging mind!! LOL.

Hey, projected to be a 2nd rounder? Is that why 99.9% of the mocks out there has him going to the 9ers at 2??!! LOL.

Noone is getting fired. Kyle and John are tied together and if they want Trubisky then you better listen to them!! Stop making up stories. This ain't creative writing. LOL.

Missing on a QB will get a GM fired.
In my opinion. . There is a right way and a wrong way to build a team. The wrong way rarely works but there are instances it does workout. The wrong way is spending high draft picks on good quartback prospects while your team lacks talent throughout the roster giving your qb a slim chance to succeed because they are surrounded by lesser talent then the defenses the face which eventually destroys their confidence and puts doubt in their minds they can be successful at this level good quartbacks have no doubt they have the goods to win games on their own. . Unless u are special like manning or few others this has a lesser success rate. . . The right way to do it would be building your offensive line to respectability then sprinkle a star offensive threat or two and a couple of role players that can make plays when called upon. This gives your young signal caller the opportunity to come in and build confidence by being put in the right situation

Meaning we should not take any of these quarterbacks at the top of this draft. . If Mahomes or Peterman are there later and they can sit that'd be ok too but if your going to build a dynasty or even a consistent winning franchise your quarterback needs to be one of the last pieces added in the grand scheme of the rebuild . .let a guy sit and develop or wait on the prospects you hope u can acquire a year maybe two down the road

Noone is getting fired. Both John and Kyle have a 6-year deal. Both of them will have a LOT of leeway and you can mark my word. They can miss on a QB and they will be just fine. Jed York has already run out of options, whatever he does he will need to keep Kyle and John for at least the main chunk of their contracts.
I need to ask this question because I think it needs to be asked..I want the best QB possible..i dont care who...Trubisky..Watson..etc

If Mitch Trubisky were black..how would he be evaluated

The same way
Man alot of comments on NinerNation hate Trubisky and the QB class. Then again I haven't seen QB discussion/debates there anywhere near the level I've seen here.

2017 NFL mock draft: 4 mocks, 3 quarterbacks

Daniel Jeremiah

Garrett to Browns: "The Browns are in desperate need of a quarterback, but I think Garrett will be too tempting to pass up. He has all-pro talent and will be a perfect fit in Cleveland's new defensive scheme."

Trubisky to 49ers:"The 49ers need to address the quarterback position and Trubisky has a very intriguing skill set. Trading down would also make a lot of sense because of the lack of talent on this roster."

Bucky Brooks

Garrett to Browns: "Gregg Williams' arrival signals a shift to a 4-3 scheme. Browns nab the best DE in the 2017 class to anchor a rebuilt unit."

Trubisky to 49ers: "Despite his inexperience, Trubisky could be the right fit for a potential Kyle Shanahan-led offense."

Lance Zierlein

Garrett to Browns: "Garrett has an all-pro ceiling and combines elite traits with high-end football character. The Browns obviously need a quarterback, but they need great football players first and foremost, and Garrett has a chance to be special."

Trubisky to 49ers: "While he has only one season of high-end production, the tape shows a player with an NFL arm, throwing anticipation and poise. Trubisky might have the toughness to learn on the go as an early starter."

Chad Reuter

Watson to Browns: "Hue Jackson will love Watson's physical attributes and his leadership skills."

Garrett to 49ers: "The 49ers get a difference-making pass rusher."

To me the biggest part of the evaluation process will begin soon - combine and the interview process.

For me the combine isn't about who runs fastest, lifts the most, etc...for QB i think the biggest thing is what's upstairs. We need to be super dilligent about identifying all these QBs we're considering drafting to make sure they have the brains and the heart to be great pros.

There's no question in my mind that physically all 3 of Trubisky, Watson and Kizer have what it takes to play in the NFL at a high level. Tom Brady is a perfect example of the fact that it's not always about the physical tools.

I think out of all the guys Watson has the intangibles but Trubisky isn't far behind. Watson's questions are with accuracy and ability to pick up an offense so I'm curious how he'll throw at the combine. Trub has to show he can handle pro scheme as well.

Hopefully Shanahan and Lynch help us put these guys through the ringer and show us that they can get it done and want it bad. If they do that i'll have no issues with us drafting any of those guys and who gives a hell about the rankings of people who likely never even talked to those kids.

The one thing we can't do though is fall in love with athletic ability and ignore serious red flags with the head and heart...
