Patrick Mahomes QB

Serious question, have you counted how often he throws when takes snaps from under center and DOESNT play action? I've watched 3 games just now of Peterman. Not once does he take a snap from under center and throws it, if its a pass play 100% of the time its a play action, usually with a roll out.

So what is he gaining so much?

peterson is winning my #1 Over rated player in the draft award currently.

I just watched his Clemson game. Want to know how many times he completed a pass to a WR that was deeper than 5 yards? ONCE

edit:
Also in the Clemson game, I tihnk 100 yards in passing are from shovel passes. Yet people bash Mahomes short-passes in air raid inflating his stats??? I just don't get it. You want inflated stats, look how Peterman plays against Clemson. So many of the yards/completions have nothing to do with the QB making a great play.

Matt Ryan lead the league in play actions this yr that's a huge part of Kyle's offense.

I didn't say anything about mahomes stats vs petermans im talking about what they actually have to do in there respected offense. I watch mahomes pass on easy completions in order to run around and throw a bomb down field all the time.

FYI I'm not hating on mahomes I'm hating on the fact that it might take our 34th overall pick to draft him when he's not even close to being ready...Peterman will be drafting more than likely on day three and I'll take that vs mahomes neither imo are long term answers for qb imo.

Here just a little clip of some of the stuff mahomes does

Talent is there but I think it will take him a couple yrs to understand the offense and learn the mechanics and I'm not drafting someone like that at 34.

We disagree on this which is cool

definitely aces the eyeball test. He will nail the combine. The real challenge for him is the interview process. Hopefully he brushes up his X's and O's. If he amazes I can see him propelling to 1st round.

Its a good write-up. There's a lot to like about his natural talent and confidence level, but many red-flags with consistency and overall QB acumen.

Nice write up there

So he did have a yr in a pro offense

My knock on the air raid is the fact that we are running basically the opposite of that. I got no problem drafting mahomes in the 4th but I not not using a top 100 pick on him. Way too much back yard football from what I've watched to draft him that high imo.

Saying goff was in a air raid and going 1st isn't really a positive imo, he didn't even get on the field until half way through the yr and he didn't look great at all. All these qbs will need time to develop and that's more than likely gonna be the case going forward because of the way college ball runs their offenses as a whole...developing means lower pick, id rather go after Peterman in the 3rd vs mahomes in the 2nd.

But end of the day doesn't matter what we want up to our HC/GM

Man, I don't understand the Peterman hype train. I took a look at him early December and figured he'd be a 6th round pick. And I thought I was being generous!

I would love to know what people are seeing, here is his game against NC

What I see is:
-A lot of designed roll outs, which is typical for OCs to use when QBs can't throw from the pocket
-Very very little reading of defenses, the majority of the playcalls are 1-receiver option plays, typically off of play action.
-Rarely moves his eyes to other WRs. Again, most of the playcalls are designed around cutting the field in half for him and overloading one area of the field.
-Not once do you see him make a tough throw
-Not once do you see him throw down the field, most passes are within 10 yards

He looks like he studies Alex Smith's film, yet people love him?

I asked NY the same exact thing yesterday. This guys name is brought up all over the place so I wanted to know why the hype too. Phoenix explained to me in one thread and NY in another, don't even know which ones cause Peterman isn't only brought up in QB threads, I think it was John Lynchs thread

To allow a little more flexibility and having looked through the films again, I have now included Mahomes in my final 3. I am not going to narrow it down anymore nor will I rank them just yet at this juncture. Not in any particular order, my final 3 are:

  • Garoppolo
  • Trubisky
  • Mahomes
