Christian McCaffrey--Stanford

Id be pumped if we got Trubisky and then McCaffrey in the 2nd.

personally, i would hate it if we took him with our 2nd round pick.

we're going to have the 34th overall pick, so there's going to be first-round talent that slips to us. that pick needs be an every down impact player--preferably a QB, WR, TE or OLB(edge rusher). we don't have the luxury to use early picks on a player who will only be on the field in a limited role.

This draft is deep in RBs. there's going to players that can fill the same role much later on.

I hope nfl scouts have figured out christian's best fit in the nfl, because i'm not hearing any wise and correct projections for him.

Here is what he is: a nfl receiver. He is the reincarnation of Lance Alworth. The athletic similarities between the two are uncanny. Most notably, the easy quickness and speed. Easy speed is a rare thing: being able to retain all of your athleticism throughout your range of speed.
Go back and look at film of lance alworth; you will see it, and see the uncanny similarity to mccaffery.

Christian's body, athleticism, and easy speed all say receiver at the next level. And he will be a good one.
Just go watch lance alworth and you will see.
Two other guys with similar athletic qualities to mccaffery are: steve smith sr and sterling sharp.

Oh, and if you are wondering where christian got that easy speed--his grandfather once held the world record in the 100 yd sprint.

So, if the 49ers can trade back into the first round (mid 20's) they will get a guy who will develop into a playmaking receiver.

We should trade back up in the late 1st and grab him.

This
Reminds me of Danny Woodhead or Shane Vereen

This team has bigger holes to fill with our top 3 picks than RB. Our Defense was historically bad and needs to continue to get addressed.
Not in favor of trading back...our new GM should trade the #2 pick & get @ 3 more high picks. That should give him the fuel to get whatever RB's or WR's he/Shanahan want. I am in favor of getting Mike Williams, Corey Davis or JuJu Smith-Schuster...all big WR's who fight for the ball. There are a number of faster, smaller receivers to be had later in the draft. I get McCaffrey's a special player, but there are too many needs to be trading back to get him, IMHO. A good RB to look at is Boise St's McNichols, an excellent runner and receiver...and he should be available in the rd 2-3 range.

Would be an outstanding slot receiver.
Cross between lance alworth, eric metcalf, and edelman.
Lynch with the alumnus inside track
I think he would be a good pick for us and potentially could be available here. Quick feet, patience, vision, route-running, undersized... hmmm sounds like Devonta Freeman. McCaffrey/Hyde will be our version of Freeman/Coleman in Shanahan's system.

I also would love to see these FA signings
Larry Warford, G
Brandon Williams, NT
Terrelle Pryor, WR

An NFC scout and an NFL executive both believe Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey does not profile as a "full-time," focal point RB.

Not worth a top 50 pick imo
I don't see it, either. For what his role would be, I think it's terrible value to take him at the start of the 2nd. You can find those guys on day 3 in the 4th, 5th and 6th round.

I think McCaffrey is a 1st round talent. But in today's NFL and the decreased value of RBs, he may go in the 2nd.

I'm not surprised scouts question his ability to be a focal point. IMO its completely bogus, and probably due to racism (TBPH). He has 300+ touches in consecutive years in a smash mouth offense. I can't think of a direct comparison for McCaffrey because although he may check in at 200lbs (small for an NFL RB), he runs with the power and grit of a 220lbs back.

As far as whether he can be your #1 RB, I don't quite understand the meaning of that. In today's NFL, who are the RBs that are a team's #1 year in and year out? Very few. I don't think teams should judge a RB on whether he can log 200+ runs a year for 5 years. There probably only 10 RBs you can really label as a bell cow. The other 20 teams in the league use a form of committee.

I think probably the best use of him at the NFL is a guy that gets 100-200 carries a season, and 40-70 catches a season.

James White on NE is a somewhat similar build and logged 60 catches, had an excellent SB, and was drafted in the 3rd. If you were to compare McCaffrey to White, I'd definitely think McCaffrey is superior. And whats funny is if you look at NFL.com's profile on White, they call him a 7th round pick. lol!

Just goes to show that a lot of prospects, ultimately their value is dependent on how well a team can use their skill set.

With the way the NFL is going, I don't get why you wouldn't value a RB that can log 60 catches. Both NE and Atlanta heavily used RBs in their passing game, and passing to a RB is a core staple of WCO.
