MD's response was right on, but a lot of what the Niners do will hinge on what they do in FA first (ditto other teams, but few have that level of cap room to play with). But certainly odds-on that they pick a player for the defense.
The more I see of Buckner, the more I like. Which means he's prolly gone at 7.

Was Robert Nkemdiche left off for off fields issues? Or inconsistent play?

Not as productive as many of the other top tier DT, and is flat out crazy. I wouldn't touch the guy until the third round. Needs meds badly.

I'm fairly certain you've have guys like Manzeil, Blackmon and others with character concerns on your big board in years past. Nkemdiche will go in the top 15. He's way too talents to not even be on the board
MD, thanks for the great work.

So if Buckner is there at 7, you say take him regardless of who else may be available?

Except maybe bosa. Niners might also put a very high grade on spence. It's very hard/impossible to predict a teams big board.

I know you're not asking me but thought I'd chime in

So, what if Tennessee likes what they see in Goff. Would they trade Mariota for the #7 pick? That would give them Goff and a high very 1st rounder. Is Mariota that much better than Goff?

Great list. Well thought out imo.

Interesting to see you have Wentz so high and Lynch so low. I wonder if NFL scouts feel the same.

Thanks for putting so much time into this!

The Temple, Navy and Auburn tapes worries me about Lynch. When the pocket is clean, he is really good. But, that is not the NFL. When pressured, Lynch was a mess this year. Goff is terrific under pressure. I feel Wentz is also pretty good when the heat is on. All of these guys need a ton of work, but Lynch scares me a bit.

Goff is terrific under pressure? The Utah tape scares me!

Not a chance in hell that this happens

not arguing, just asking. Because Mariota is so much better? Or, because has proven it in his first year and Goff is an unknown?

Still early in the game, but the Niners are in a great position at number 7. I don't see any scenario where Bosa is on the board at 7, and seriously doubt Tunsil will be on the board as well. So, I'll take those two off. What is left potentially? Two good QBs, a monster stud 34 DE, an explosive edge rusher, a technically superior pass protection LT prospect, two amazingly athletic outside/inside backers, and a hybrid CB/safety that has unbelievable athleticism. Three or four of these guys will be on the board when the team picks. Since the NFL and NBA are similar in draft philosophy: big and athletic beats small and athletic, my guess is that the draft will shake out like this: 1. QB goes first in a trade-up. 2. Bosa. 3. Tunsil 4. Second QB 5. Buckner 6. Stanley 7. That would leave the OLB's and Ramsey.

In the above scenario, the Niners are left with three great options at OLB/ILB, but all have question marks about their physicals and off the field issues (Spence) or going with Ramsey.

Dallas is the wild card. Will they take an immediate defensive starter like Buckner, Spence, or Ramsey or take the QB of the future in Wentz or Goff. You evidently think it will be the QB.

My guess is the Niners will be selecting either Goff, Spence,Miles or Treadwell as I now think Tunsil, Wentz (or Goff), Bosa, Buckner, Ramsey, and Stanley will go top 6.

I think Mariota is the better talent and they wouldnt give him up after a pretty solid rookie year for a kid that has question marks. Seems pretty far fetched to me.

Yeah, I just remember all the speculating about Kelly trying to trade for Mariota last year. He has a much higher draft pick this year, and would take more than just the 1st pick. But, knowing what you already have, like you said, versus an unknown would be key. But Mariota/Bosa vs Goff/Buckner or Spence/ High 2nd or 3rd is interesting.

My thought is that adding Buckner would get us set at DE and if we resign Williams our base 3 would be a real strength. I love Spence, but can he be effective if our current end (Eddie? Dorsey?) doesn't command the double team?

Conversely you add Buckner and I think Harold or Tank (or a FA) will put up numbers.

I think our biggest need is pass rush. I'm not picky with how it's generated. with spence and lynch colapsing the pocket you can't double team both of them. Armsted can get good push up the middle and Williams is a stuffer that will help keep the qb from escaping forward in the pocket. I'm all for any of the three though. Our push rush would be better with any of them because they all have potential to be good enough to command double teams. It's just a pass happy NFL and I think we might put a premium on olb.
MD, if you had to choose between Jack/Smith, Buckner and Stanley/Tunsil, who would you pick?
