No foresight, then feel free to look forward to 10 years of prolonged pain.

So many stupid tank threads over the years. The last one I recall was the Suck for Bush movement. Headed up, iirc, by NolanNonsense. There was this running back, see, called Reggie Bush. He was going to reinvent the position. We absolutely had to have him. Or we would just have 10 years of prolonged pain.

The list of failed No 1 draft picks is long. Very long. No one takes a young team and gets them to lose on the off chance that next year's first draft pick might be a success. Except internet posters who know full well that by the time they are proved utterly wrong, their words will be forgotten.

Hey man, I hate to have to bring this up. What if the 9ers had drafted Aaron Rodgers in 2005 huh? Need I say more?

Hang in there, may be we will finally get it right?!

Rodgers would have gotten beat to death because our offensive line sucked, and he's pretty fragile.
Who is to say that Aaron Rodgers would be as good as he is had he been drafted by the 49ers.

Even if Goff is the second coming of Rodgers and say he does declare for the 2016 draft, we'll probably win just enough games to watch another team draft him.

Nobody does that. Nobody EVER does that. I'm continually amused when fans suggest it. How does it work? Are professional players or coaches going to purposely hurt their resume or their career stats? Are all the individuals on a team going to get together and say to themselves 'let's play a lot worse than we actually can. Nobody will notice.' Is a coaching staff going to purposely put together a bad game plan? And if someone is looking at it later trying to figure out whether to hire them, are they going to just explain that they sucked on purpose? Come on, people. It just doesn't make any sense.

Nobody does that you say? Meanwhile the Bears are having a garage sale. Oh I am sure they are trying to get better. Yes, they are, but just not this season. LOL.

As for Goff, I have already said it together with many posters, we need to tank. There is no purpose not to tank when you are already getting blown out repeatedly by teams. There is nothing to gain not to tank. So what say if you win 4-5 games? Where does that get you? Nowhere.

Would you hire a coach or a player who purposely lost a game for any reason? No GM in any professional sport would do that.

I can say that. Take Rodgers just out of Cal and throw him right in there behind that circa-2005 O-line and he'd get beaten up just like Smith did. Take Smith right out of college and let him sit for a few years behind Brett Favre and I'm guessing he would be a better QB than he was after a few years with the Niners.

Absolutely I would. The HC doesn't make that decision anyway, is the organization. Is about being strategically smart for the good of the team and not being a dumb as* trying to act tough oh I will fight till the end crap and achieve sweet FA.

Oh plus who is the HC? Is only frigging Tomsula, we need to fire his as* anyway. LOL. So, who cares?! Hahhaha.
The logic in the thread becomes smaller and smaller with each thread. You draft high, you draft impact players like oline and a d end or an olb in a 3-4 scheme. There is need on this team for edge rushing and oline help. Goff has some tools but not enough to warrant a 49ers first round pick in the 2016 draft.

You are nuts. So, you keep a shi*ty QB and wait until when you might finally draft a decent QB? 2 years from now? You add on another year of sitting on the bench, that is 3 years. This is precisely how you drag the team and its fans through years of pain. My God, where is that sense of urgency huh?

Man the Raiders really made out when they were able to draft JaMarcus Russell with the first pick. The NFL draft is so unknown why would you ever tank on purpose. Also players and coaches will never tank if they want to keep their job. So just stop

Are we talking about draft busts or tanking here? Those are 2 different things. You can draft a bust whether you tank or not.

You must not have watch the Colts when they were missing Peyton. Can you say with a straight face that the QB position was responsible for that teams showing? How exactly did he make their defense worse? Then, they draft Luck, and magically are back to a playoff team with a rookie QB and rookie INTERIM coach. You're right, nobody does it. Ever.

Did the Colts make it out alright with Andrew Luck as the overall No. 1 pick you think? LOL.
