I don't get some of the things you're proposing...
- You'd trade Vernon for a 5th rd pick, yet, you'd cut Ahmad Brooks and Stevie Johnson. I don't get that. You cut Brooks and SJ and get nothing in return...makes no sense.
- I don't get either of your FA signings. Odrick was highly rated coming out of college, but the times I've seen him play he wasn't impressive. Never heard of TE Green. After looking at his career stats, I'm not sure what he offers. Maybe the guy can play, but he doesn't have much of a resume.
- I like DeVante Parker...think he's the most gifted and complete WR in the draft. What I don't get is you don't project a DL 'til the 5th rd. Justin Smith hasn't said whether he's coming back or not...but even if he plays another season, now's the time to draft his replacement. Odrick's not that guy, either. My pick would be Leonard Williams, who can play DE and DT and is the kind of relentless DL we need.
- Funchess may be a good receiver, but a 230 lb TE? I'll have to check him out better. But, based on your projections, you'd trade Vernon, cut Celek and sign Green, a guy with limited experience. So the TE corps at that point would consist of McDonald, Green, and a 230 lb rookie?. Hmm...
- Sounds like you'd draft Duke Johnson to be Gore's replacement?
- I like the Mannion and OT selections.

FWIW, Virgil Green is crazy athletic and has developed into a blocking TE. He played with Kap in Reno, and he could be a big-play threat at TE. Maybe he replaces VD as the deep threat decoy blocking TE for a lot less $$?
Funchess definitely needs to bolk up and man up to play TE. I don't think he's physical enough, but maybe he could be with coaching? IDK

Lloyd didn't bring much to the table and wasn't going to be around next year anyway, all he did was take snaps from young players that where signed to cheap rookie deals.
Gordon
Boldin
SJ
Patton
Ellington
sounds like a good squad to mealso I think they would have to sign Gordon as well, not sure what that would cost??
I'm not sure either, but I think they could work that out depending on what kind of season he puts together. Right now, they can rest on Gordon's rookie deal.

I thought a trade with Vernon Davis could go down, due to the limited amount of TE talent available in the draft and his pedigree. I don't want him, but I think another team like the Redskins may. Especially since Scot McCloughan is their new GM. But who knows, it's just a mock. I just think it's time for the 49ers to move on from Vernon. Either he fell off or he doesn't love football the way he used to.
As far as Odrick and Green, they are two medium to low budget FA's that the 49ers like to acquire, that maybe didn't pan out well with their previous teams, but could be great fits for ours. Odrick has a lot of qualities I like. He can be very disruptive with penetration, he's quick, and has great instincts. I believe great things could happen if you paired him up with Tomsula. Virgil Green was Kaepernick's TE in college, and was stuck behind Julius Thomas in Denver. He has speed, durability, and great hands. He developed as a blocking TE in the NFL, but it could be nice having him back with Kaepernick.
As far as waiting on DL in the draft, I thought our defense played great this year, even the young guys on the DL. They are admirable enough to allow us to address the offense in the draft. Positions like WR, TE, and RB. I just have enough faith in our DL to play well without McDonald and Smith. They won't be as dominant, but you can only address so many things in the draft. And given our season, offense needs the help. I like Leonard Williams too, but he'll be gone way before we pick.
Funchess, Green, and McDonald would have to do better then what Vernon did this season. I moved on from Vernon and did my best to address the TE position with free agency and the draft. Neither of which has great TE replacements. I can easily see Funchess and his size, becoming a scary TE receiving threat and I'm not alone in that assessment.
Carlos Hyde is Gore's "replacement", Duke Johnson is a nice compliment though.

I like your draft, but I'm not sure about the trades. I think that Josh Gordon would be a dangerous proposition considering all of the problems the team has had. I also think Vernon will be given a chance to rebound, and that Stevie Johnson is likely to be back as well.

Fair enough. This will probably change, but I liked this idea and thought I'd share.

I really like the way he balled out this year, but I just can't see us being able to afford him and Culliver. So looking long term, I would have to keep Culliver, unless he has a stupid idea for how much he's worth and goes somewhere else for money. If that were to happen, then Cox could get his shot at staying here.
They are close to the same age. So if youre looking long term I would go with the guy who is just as talented, possibly cheaper and no off the field issues.

A 5th round pick for Davis? What a joke. I'd be livid if that happened.

I could see Vernon fetching a 5th round pick.
Couple his age with his declining gameplay and I could see it
I'd hopefully want a 4th, or a 3rd if we included a late pick... But 5th wouldn't be unreasonable
I know its a little different circumstance, but don't forget we got Boldin for a 6th

Exactly. I didn't like that either. I'd choose him over Culliver. But we are still in serious need of a number 1 corner, if we don't acquire one by next season I'll be very disappointed. I wouldn't trade Vernon away just yet. Give him one more year. Keep Lloyd. I agree with keeping Gore and trading for Gordon. Sign SUH!

I'm for letting Crabtree go and adding Gordon but keeping the rest of our WRs the same.

I don't think we need a CB as badly as some people do. For some reason I feel like this we need a CB carried over from last season

Our pass defense ranks 5th in the NFL, that doesn't sound like a squad that needs much help to me. Not to mention our best pass rusher missed 9 games this season. If anything our top needs are either on the D-line or the offense, not in the secondary.
I was taking you seriously until I saw the sign Suh, lol

I really don't know the problem with Kaep but there is one for sure. I'm not in the coach's film room but its obvious that they scaled back at times and I'm only guessing that its Kaeps lack of understanding or ability to take in all the progressions that's the problem. Maybe I'm base, but at the start of this season, they stacked this O with playmakers and we didn't get better??
Atlanta has a far better core when healthy with Jones, White, Douglas and Hester. They have possession, speed and game breakers. We only had possession receivers.
But I agree, Kaep needs to be better at reading a defense and going through his progressions.

Lol wouldn't you agree he would help our defense greatly? Swapping Dorsey for Suh should substantially increase our run stopping and pass rushing. Why wouldn't you want the best DT in the leagus? Yeah he's dirty but who cares if he helps us win! He was the best player on this year's best defense.
