Charles Davis
Some people believed coming into the week that Shelton could possibly be a top-10 selection in this year's draft, and he did nothing to dissuade them from that belief with his performance in practices.
He's a big man at 6-2, 343, but not just a sit-in-the-middle nose tackle.

5.66 40. Definitely a NT with his short arms.

Ngata ran a 5.13 at the combine and I believe he has much longer arms although I don't know if there is an official arm length for him. I think Shelton is there at 15 and wouldn't mind him.

I would. Overrated. Not a special prospect.

There's no doubt this guy's an absolute beast...but I'd be very surprised to see Baalke draft him, largely because with Dorsey, Dial & Williams, there's plenty of NT depth already. I think it's much more likely we could see Baalke taking a DE/DT...maybe a Goldman or Malcolm Brown type. He's got to prepare for Justin SMith not being there.

Brown is more of a 3 tech DT in a 4-3. I don't see the fit with us.

Dorsey is coming off a season ending injury, Williams is coming off his second serious season ending injury in as many years, Dial is certainly better suited to be a DE than an NT. No telling what Dorsey or Williams will look like and both are on short term contracts. I could definitely see a guy like Shelton, particularly if Mangini who really cut his teeth in New England with Wilfork as the NT, wants to run more of a 2-gap system.
I do think that a guy like Eddie Goldman is certainly an intriguing possibility largely because of his versatility as you mentioned, he could fit in well at both DE and NT.

Dial can play inside or out, Williams has had issues staying healthy and Dorsey will be 30 and can also play inside or out. If he is on the board and represents the BPA I would not be shocked if he is the pick.

I could see Baalke draft Shelton and move Dorsey to DE, the 9ers would get much bigger. Shelton could than also rotate as a DT in the nickel packages, he is not limited to just 1st and 2nd downs, despite a slow 40.
He also fits Jed's win with class as he is an Academic All-American

I think if he makes it to 15... you have to take him. He is so disruptive, powerful!
I think his value is top 10 potential, no doubt.
Receivers are a plenty... value in the 2nd and 3rd round to have. Plus I'm not sold on Devante Parker at 15.
I hope Shelton slides but I don't think he will.

Dude's a monster, no doubt about it. I think he'll be playing for John Fox in Chicago next year. For our team, it's Malcolm Brown, a guy good enough to legitimately replace Justin Smith when he hangs up his cleats.

The Bears are switching to a 3-4. Let's not pencil in Shelton there just yet. They have needs all over their defense. Jared Allen doesn't have much time left and he wasn't worth the contract he got. Chicago is in a position to take the best player available.
I see them selecting Trae Waynes or a guy like Vic Beasley before taking a 3-4 NT (if that's what Danny's viewed as). Who's more valuable to the Chiefs; Dontari Poe or Justin Houston? Von Miller or Aquib Talib? Dan Williams or Patrick Peterson? Clay Matthews or BJ Raji?
Fully expected to get s**t dumped on for the player comparisons.

Fangio is also the same guy that repeatedly said he preferred smaller, not bigger nose tackles.
I could see Chicago going with Landon Collins at safety, going with a pass rushing OLB, going with a CB....etc If they cut Brandon Marshall and Cooper or White are still on the board, I wouldn't be shocked to see them grab one of those guys.

Agree the Bears have a lot of needs on defense...Fangio knows the importance of establishing a top DL to anchor it all. I'll be very surprised if Chicago doesn't take Shelton.
