2015 49ers Draft Needs

Good point! Niners will likely be drafting bottom five or so. Looking at some of the early mocks it looks like WRs and DBs will be available...not sure I see a NT but there are some DLs listed as well.
Crabtree was non existent today. Going to be very interesting to see if we keep him or not. I think the problem is we think he's a 5 year 35-40 mil player and he thinks he's a 5 year 45-55 million dollar player. I think we are right and his injuries don't help either. The good news is this year is stacked with WR's at the top so we can probably get one at the end of the 1st or trade up and get one. I think I'd be ok with going into next year with Boldin, Johnson, 1st Round, Ellington, Patton and then Vernon, McDonald, Carrier as our TE's. Kap would have to step up and so would the young guys but we might be ok especially if the OL started doing their job. Letting Crabtree go would probably give us enough to pay Aldon whatever we need to plus then extend Vernon Davis. The cap going up will help a lot but guys will also want more because of that. Side note maybe instead of drafting a WR we trade for a vet who is already developed. Let Crabtree go and bring in another Stevie Johnson in a trade or even sign a FA a vet bargain FA like Cecil Shorts.

Right now I'm looking at WR 1st, DL 2nd, OL 3rd, Backup QB 4th, OLB 5th

I see more are getting on the Cecil Shorts bandwagon. Cheaper and can be a part of the three-headed receiving threat with Boldin and Johnson. We do have Ellington and Patton, but my reasons for wanting another vet is because we need a replacement for Boldin before 2016. I'm still holding out hope that we get to see Patton in some kind of action this season. If he proves to be capable, then we can just go for two rookies in the draft (one more of the possession type and one deep threat).

Agree with everything you've written here. The only thing I would add, or change is waiting to see how our young draftees pan out this year. If Ward, McCray, Johnson, Reaser, and Acker all look like solid players then DB can be ignored. But if there is a really top notched CB available and none of these guy show well...I'd take the CB.

Unfortunately, we won't see Reaser and Acker this year, so I think we may have to spend a pick on a DB, particularly safeties. We might be able to by pass getting a corner. Safety is a definite need however. We have no depth at that position.

True, they won't play but they will be around the facility and working out. Coaches can get a feell for how their recoveries are going--how ready they'll be next TC. That didn't work so well with Carradine and Lattimore but it has with others. Same is true of Thomas...if he looks fully recovered they will have more lattitude in where they pick OLmen.
Lets trade te next 2 drafts for 2 top 5 wrs. Fully believe with the depth, rs ir, and fa w could easily float it. Jaelen strong/dgb and diggs. A freak burner and monster targetsupplemenng boldin and stevie
If this season is any indication the real #1 need the 49ers have is for a pass rusher. Either a stud DL like Justin Smith who can give us major push or a swift outside rusher like an Aldon Smith. When either of them is out our pass rush goes away without blitzes and opposing QB's eat us up. Even if we have them both it never hurts to have guys who can rotate in and put pressure on the QB. A pass rush makes things a lot easier on the secondary and creates turnovers for our offense and helps us get off the field on 3rd downs and helps protect a lead in the 4th Qtr. This is really our only true position of need. You can never have to many good pass rushers.

Other positions could open depending on free agency but even if we lost Crabtree we have Johnson, could probably resign Lloyd and Ellington shows promise.

If we lose Iupati we still have Looney. Martin could play guard and Thomas might as well. Randy Cross played guard for us until he moved to Center so I am sure Martin could as well.

The secondary? The best thing we could do there is put pressure on the QB with a pass rush. We have young rookie CB's and Ward so we should be fine even if we lose a free agent or two.

A promising rookie at any position is welcome but the1 true need is pass rusher.

DL, DL, pash rush.
I'm on the DL band wagon.

I also think, if Lloyd keeps upping his game - he'll be resigned.
At the end of the season it will, hopefully, all be sorted out. The niners have Dorsey, Carradine, Ramsey, Okoye and Purcell waiting in the wings for depth. But if they have a shot at a top notch guy at DL I'd be on board. The problem is...they could use a top pick at WR, CB, DL, OLB...so only one or two will be available, at the most. Baalke will likely fill some of those needs with FA vets...any more Justin Smith's out there? LOL! Rebuilding teams often make good bargain basement trade partners. Boldin?

Players over 30 years old: Dawson (39), J Smith (35), Osgood (34), Boldin (34), Lloyd (33), Lee (32) and Gore (31). This list leads me to believe WR is a very important decision next year. Crabtree is a free agent at the end of this year so the team will still have Johnson, Boldin, Ellington and Patton signed for at least another year. So, depending on what they do with Crabtree and Lloyd's contracts this may be a need.

Let's say crabtree leaves having Lloyd around would soften the blow but can we afford him killing Ellington and especially Pattons growth. 1 year would be bad enough but 2 seasons they would be done. So do we take the risk and see if we have something in Ellington or Patton and risk it costing us games or do we play it safe go with Lloyd and then end up never seeing what Patton and possibly Ellington can do. It's a touch decision to make. I'd only think about bringing him back if no Crabtree though. If he's back we won't have to worry as much. So if no Crabtree I could see re-signing Lloyd or a bargain vet, trading for a bargain vet or drafting a wr in the 1st/2nd.

I like Ward and think he'll be a very good player but I still think we should've taken Tuitt there.

I loved Tuitt and all, but 1. He had 1 tackle coming into week 5, and 2. What makes you think we would play him, especially when Tank is in clothes not playing. Our staff is stubborn, don't play young guys, unless forced to.
