We want a 5'9" corner to play the slot. Varrett is the perfect fit for that.

when he disrupts receivers routes and sticks with the faster WR's and shuts them down ...his lack of height wont be an issue ...there have been plenty of 5'9 CBs that have had success in the NFL ..and this kid would be a major asset to our pass defense

You guys who have played sports...when you walk out on the field or court, would you rather see a guy your size or bigger as an opponent, or a smaller, super-quick guy guarding you? I always would rather have seen the larger guy. Little, aggressive, quick-twitch guys are a pain, especially when they are as feisty as Verrett. Ask Richard Sherman who he would prefer to play against.

This is so true! Another over rated stat is the 40 time, as if it's football speed. If the player plays in a competitive conference and does well against the best opponents...these other measures should be secondary (pun intended! )

I'd rather want to see a non-competitive guy. A player who can play his game is always a pain in the arse, either a Messi or an Ibrahimovic (both of them are superb soccer players though they bring completely different physical attributes to the table)

Good analogy. I used to HATE dealing with quick guys. In basketball you'd have to chase them all over the court. If they were defending you, you had to work extra hard to shake them loose.

I mentioned this before that it's worth noting that no one who is against picking Verrett believes that he is a bad football player. The ONLY criticism they can come up with is his size.

Agreed and size isn't everything...it helps...but what I want in our CB, esp. if we're going to play a nice mix of press and off-coverage, is his aggressiveness up at the LOS, contesting routes and prowless in attacking the ball. Are people comfortable with V playing a real tight and physical press game? Would he be used as an outside CB and then inside to the slot? Primary slot? Primary outside?

Size is great but I think some of you are vastly overrating it. Richard Sherman isn't great because he's tall, I think his greatest asset is actually his great instincts and high IQ play. Also as mentioned above, he plays with a big chip on his shoulder and you see that in his game.

It's funny people point to the Legion of Bloom as reference when their most valuable player that holds everything together is perhaps their shortest in that secondary (Earl Thomas is only an inch taller than Verrett).

Personally, I think if Verrett reaches his full potential he could be the best corner to come out of this draft. If he was 2 in taller, I believe he'd be a top 15 pick. He's tough, physical, and a very cerebral player as well. He'd match up very well against the Tavons, Percy's, and Ellingtons in our division and that's not something to overlook. Overall, he's the guy I'm hoping we draft in May.
