As an alum, I just want to wish Ryan the best of luck. Regardless, if he is a niner, I will cheer him on.

Question is, do you want him for the 49ers?

The guy is really good for size, stature and arm strength. No questions there. He's real accurate at times. But at times he's real wild and unpredictable. I think he's in interception waiting to happen. I have some questions about him under center. He's done a lot of shotgun in college.

He actually plays a lot from under center and takes snaps real well. It doesn't bother me that he plays out of the shotgun at times because it's more of a traditional shotgun set and not a 5 WR spread.

I live in Arkansas and I've watched this guy all along. I think with the right coaching the guy could be a damn good QB! He reminds me at times of Jim Kelly and that's not a bad thing is it?

I like Mallet and think he's the best QB prospect apart from Luck from what I've seen so far (stats and some youtube hightlights..)

Pros
Good accuracy and high completion %
Very good touch and fairly strong arm.
Played in the SEC
Great stat line
Played in a pro-style offense (under center vs spread/shotgun)
Good natural instincts

Cons
Mobility is average. Seems slow footed at times.

Questions:
Not sure about his football IQ and how far he can excel in a complicated offense.
Is he a good leader?
How's his record in 4th qtr pressure situations/comebacks?

(Ernie Accorsi Theory "Can he take his team down the field, with the championship on the line, and into the end zone? "

Fixed.

All he had to do was go like 18 yards. And the answer was no.

what's that supposed to mean? Niners are my team but I've always been a fan of the Jets as well.

kind of funny but those are the two QB's I'm torn on as well.
Is it me or does it seem that many members of the webzone expect a QB to come out be a be a perfect prospect? It's almost as if they feel you shouldn't need coaching.
My problem with Mallet is where is his head at? He has all the physical tools but you need a leader at the QB position and I just can't see it with him. The way he carries himself and his demeanor just bother me. I would rather have a Matt Ryan/Peyton Manning than a Jay Cutler/Vince Young.
Abysmal footwork. Just disgusting. Bill Walsh wouldn't even waste a breath discussing this prospect
s**tty mobility! And seems like he's a idoit! But size, arm and leadership. But are his feet nimble enough for the west coast, that is going to be a big thing. That's what we need to be looking for a guy who can move his feet quickly and who can keep plays alive with them, and need be rest his feet and throw. Dam i just had a bill walsh moment!
He could be very succesful for a team looking for a pure pocket passer. Norv Turner or Billicek could make him a star. If Cleveland hires Shurmur (awful for Rams, great for us), Mallet is the perfect place for him if they don't trust in Colt McCoy.

With Harbaugh, I don't think Mallet will be very high on his wish list. In the WCO you really need a QB that can scramble and take off when the opportunity presents itself. It just adds another dimension to spreading the defense out and keeping them honest.

Do I want him on the Niners? Part of me says yes, but remember, I am the guy that wanted Alex Smith back in the day. So, I try not to recommend QBs any more.

Here is my thing, his footwork is a problem. He works on that, as he has the past year, and he will be fine. He is not a roll out or scrambling QB, though. Mallett is very much a drop back, deep ball, deep throw QB. He can move around in the pocket, but he is not going to buy you as much time as a smaller fleeter footed QB. In addition, I am not sure if he fits in Harbaugh's version of the WCO--here we need to ask the scheme gurus of the ZONE, if Mallett could fit in it.

I fear him going to Arizona. I DO NOT WANT HIM FACING THE NINERS. Yes, he has choked a few games away, but so did Peyton Manning. Granted, Ryan is not Manning. But he is not Ryan Leaf, either. I have said before, he reminds me of Phillip Rivers--Big, strong, and usually accurate QB.

Isn't Jim Kelly who everybody compared Jim Drunkenmiller to? I just had nightmarish flashbacks.

Only if he leads us to 4 straight super bowls and comes out the back end with a big goose egg 0-4.
