That's a very large maybe....too many people are calling for Luck without even knowing if he will come out.

Here's a cold dose of reality, Luck doesn't come out and Locker goes #1 to Buffalo....then what?

There's a good chance the new CBA will have a rookie cap. If that is negotiated before the draft Luck may or may not declare. If the new CBA isn't negotiated then I think Luck has to come out for the April draft as it may be the last time to cash in.

that's fair, but I will still take the risk because the 49ers are in need of a guy who can come in right away and pick the offense up and be effective ASAP, which Luck is the most likely to be able to do that. When someone is described as the best QB prospect since Manning, and with QB being the biggest hole in our offense, you take that risk.

And obviously being on the west coast I've seen this guy play, this isn't Reggie Bush abusing the college football world with his speed and agility, this is a QB who is composed, accurate, has all the measurables, pretty good arm.

If he declares then yes, Do what ever it takes to get him. If not then pick up Prince and then Stanzi in the second.

This is a great point, and one that we really need to keep in mind. Basically, if there's a new CBA, there's a very good chance that none of this talk matters at all. That said, if he really is special we have a major need, a bad record, and a situation with the CBA that might (dare I even say might hopefully) push him out to the NFL this year.

I'm not saying we'll be able to do what it takes to get him, but given our major need and bad record (more draft pick ammo to negotiate with), the CBA snafu might actually work to our benefit.

Yes but you don't overpay or "do whatever it takes". It all depends on what the asking price to move up to #1 will be.

Actually this would be a time that you would overpay some. When you have absolute crap at QB and there is a guy that can turn your franchise around it is the time to go get him even if the cost is very high.

Hell Yes!!! if we get luck and Harbaugh, maybe even holmgren we will be drafting low next year anyway.

who is the head coach going to be.

luck is going to carolina or buffalo if he does come out in the 2011 draft. no way they trade their pick away.

I wonder if any already developed QB will be available for trade this season, Id rather spend draft picks on an already developed QB thats still young than lose 1st round picks for a QB whose fate is unknown.
