I like two players here a lot - one is the guard Iupati, and second is the FS Earl Thomas - who may be a better fit at CB at the next level. If JPP was there, I wouldn't have hesitated at all. But, Titans got him.
Well, OL was our biggest problem last year, and you have a chance to grab the best Guard in the draft.
I'd take Iupati.
He is my first choice. He is exactly the kind of player Singletary wants, so makes perfect sense.
Well can you make the pick so I can do mine and go to bed please.
Yeah, just gonna make the pick in 2 minutes

I would have taken him over Iupati for Niners. OT is a much bigger need and the guy is talented.
me too but I was going with either myself so........

In reality, no way the 49ers pass on Anthony Davis. We need a RT more than we need OG. I think the bad press Davis is getting is similar to the bad press that Haden's 40 time is getting him.
Look at the game film. Does Davis have slow feet or lack of arm length? I don't pretend to know these answers. I respect the opinion of Maddog, AB, and OTC who seem to sleep, eat and drink this stuff.
Davis, Graham, Thomas or Iupati would make me happy. Plus, if we get Iupati at #17 and Brown/Ducasse/Saffold at #30, that would make for a good first round. Plus we could grab FS/SS/, PR/KR, or ROLB at #49, then at #62 we could probably get a good CB, especially since we just lost Hudson.

I agree. Anthony Davis was the better pick here for the Niners. Iupati is a very good guard but Davis can be a special OT. Davis has excellent feet and can be terrific at either LT or RT. Singletary would keep him in line.

Another way to look at would be; what is the better combination:
1. Iupati/Saffold, Duccasse, Brown, or;
2. Davis/Asamoah,Johnson, Jerry?
I like #2 better.

I'm not a fan of Anthony Davis. Not just because of his workouts, but he doesn't take football seriously. He reminds me of Andre Smith from last year, except he is not as talented or as good as Andre Smith. I wouldn't touch Anthony Davis with a top 20 pick, especially a team that can't afford any busts.
Iupati is clearly the best OG in the draft, and some scouts believe he can also play the RT position. I know I played it safe, but Davis is too much of a risk here. Iupati fills a huge need, it's not like Baas or Chilo were opening huge lanes for Gore. If we want to get our running game going, we need to be able to run down the throat.

I don't think Chilo and Baas was the only problems. When you run the same run play over and over. you're bound to get stuffed. It doesn't work on madden. Why did Raye think it would work in the NFL?

Now with the trade with the Vikings, the 49ers might have a chance at getting Brown at #30? Or maybe they need to jump in front of the Packers and draft him. #30 is worth 620 pts and number 22 (New England's pick) is worth 780 pts. So our third rounder would move us up with a deficit of 15 pts. We could have them throw in their 7th rounder to make it even.

Oh, I forgot about the Vikings trade. Then take Brown at #30.

Of course it wasn't the only problem. But, Baas is pretty average guard. Chilo, I think will be a good player. He played well towards the end of the year. But, it's not just their run blocking either. They were pretty average in pass-blocking too. Several times they let a defender through the middle. If there was a CBA in place, I'm quite sure Baas would have been an ex-niner and no one would have been very upset about it.

I agree that Iupati is the better choice. By the logic that the Niners' need at RT is greater than at OG, so it follows that RT is easier to replace. The Niners can now trade Baas and move up in this draft or get another pick in 2010 or 2011. Get Saffold/Ducasse/Brown at 30.
