Deionte Thompson Single High Free Safety

And Chauncey Gardner Johnson is better than both
He struggles too much when you put him at single high safety. A much better conventional and in the box safety. Do like his game in the right system though.

Seems like he's falling, not many are hyping him up, any chance he's available in the 3rd ? If so I'd definitely love the pick

I think he goes mid round 2, but absolutely a consideration if he falls to the 3rd.
I can't believe he's still on the board! Anyone interested still?
Please let the pick be him or CGJ tomorrow morning!!!!

Huge Bama fan here and I hope the Niners stay away from Deionte. He was absolutely awful agamsit good competition. Too many bad angels in run support and no ability to track the ball in the air.

Needed some good ones.

I'm shocked both he and CGJ are still there, I'd definitely pick one of them

Being a Bama fan, I ride for most of their good players and I really don't see him bringing much to an NFL team. He makes way to many mistakes and that's why he's still on the board, even though many had him rated much higher before he started to get exposed in the playoffs.
I don't watch a lot of Bama football but just quickly viewing 5 mins of his highlights, he looks like he has the range to be a single high safety. Looks to have good ball skills and appears to like to tackle. Mistakes can be fixed. I think he's definitely worth it in the 4th.

We already picked a bunch of secondary dudes last year that I assume project to be better than him

Valid point, but so far, none of them are proven difference makers, yet.

If the Niners brass decide to give this group another year with the improved front seven pass rush, I can live with that.

Thompson is a bit of a boom or bust option, but he's probably the best pure single high option this year.

Safety is to this year's draft what Edge was to last year's. Every pick last year was assumed to be an edge player and none was taken. I think the team is going to give Colbert, Tartt, Ward, Harris, and maybe even Moore or Reed a chance to solidify the job. If not, safety will be the number one need next year.
