Deionte Thompson Single High Free Safety

At 6 foot 2 and 196 pounds, this guy really flies around the field and could be a dynamic piece to our defense for years to come if we plan on maintaining the same scheme. We need someone to fill that Earl Thomas/Ed Reed role to take stress off the CBs and help create more turnovers. With the abundance of edge rushers in this year's draft, maybe we should take a look at this guy with our first pick and grab someone like Winnovich or Burns in the 2nd. He should be an interesting player to keep an eye on the rest of the season. Here's a video of some highlights from 2017 and I'll try and post a 2018 highlight video when a good complication comes out along with other useful links. Feel free to contribute

This is my fear...that we make the mistake of thinking this way and passing on elite edge rushers.

We can get an Earl Thomas like player...by signing Earl Thomas

Now if Bosa is gone before our pick and we're picking at #2(still doubtful with games vs Tampa and Denver and the Rams team who will likely be resting starters week 17) then hopefully the Giants or another QB starved team comes calling.

At least right now after Bosa I feel like the BPA defensive players may be the interior rushers whether it's Williams or Oliver. Ferrell, Sweat, Polite, Burns or Allen would all be excellent picks but not sure if any of them will climb to #2 overall ranks.

I think we'll win a few meaningless games and be picking 5 to 8. I'm of the mindset Bosa won't be there. I don't think we should invest anymore on interior rushers, or at least with our top pick. I would rather invest in someone who can hold the position down the next 8 years at a pro bowl level versus signing someone that's been to 8 and declining.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Thompson. He is a legit single-high safety. BUT, I would rather not pass on a top-tier pass rusher like Polite if we have the chance.
Only way I'm okay with Thompson is if we trade down and can't get a edge rusher.

Obviously edge is the priority, but Thompson is a kid that comes into play because we can pushing ourselves down the draft board.
I don't think there is a chance that the 49ers touch another Bama player with off the field issues in the 1st round.

There was a continuance, trial is still postponed.

Word, wonder how far that pushes him down
He has not played well this game imo.
He looked really bad Monday night, slow to recognize and react.
