Of course now he'll go somewhere else and regularly boom through kicks from 55 yards out.

Never draft kickers. Wait for them to get drafted and cut by other teams and then get the reclamation project.

on the drafted kicker subject, recall the SNF epic game, balitmore lost by one and their rook kicker doinked a PAT. rook kicker for the pats shanked one not even close. rook kickers it's an adventure. something to be said for guys who have kicked hundreds of field goals they don't have the nerves anymore that the young guys have. i expect after the wild ride of moody the team will pivot toward a veteran, maybe hopkins or joseph

I think a rookie kicker missed for Cle yesterday too.
I'm going to keep this thread open for everyone to celebrate but a part of me wants this stink off the Niner Talk pages lol.

Glad he's not going to cost us anymore games.

Was it a 27 yarder?

Yup. This seems to be the common pathway a lot of great kickers follow through their career. Being a kicker is a permanent pressure-cooker state. I'll take a grizzled veteran who found his stride but is numb to the pressure and doesn't GAF anymore because he's been cut by 5 teams over a young, talented kicker.

I like it. 5 men enter, 1 man leave.
"Bust a deal, spin the wheel" becomes "shank a kick, cut ur dick."

Is this actually happening?
I feel bad for moody, but this had to be done. I think they risked losing the locker room if they kept him on.

I expect this and completely agree.

Who cares what he does elsewhere. It wasn't going to turnaround here.

Matt Prater eating Cheetos on the couch in his tightie whities last week and kicking the game winner in Buffalo the next week probably sealed the deal.

Jake Moody may be a great kicker some day, but just not here.

moody just isn't cut out for nfl, he's a dud. we gave him far more chances than many clubs would have. stunned he made it to week 1 this season.
GOOD RIDDANCE!!! 🥱
Time to move on. Now, really interested to see who they bring in. Haven't been keeping up to date on who is currently available.
Just a shame. I'm sure he's going to go to another team and be a 10 year all-pro now. You'd think they'd give him a chance to turn things around considering they spent irreplaceable draft capital on him.

So which weak legged kicker are the 49ers bringing in? Can they get a soccer player of their own instead?

When they chose not to pay gould it was a much bigger issue because of the touchback being so far back. With it coming out to the 35 now it's less of an issue because they are usually aiming for the landing zone instead.
