Marcus Mariota

Mariota is a back-up at best.

Due to some escalators in his contract Marcus Mariota may be released as his trade market is drying up. Lynch said he wanted a solid backup behind Jimmy, I think Marcus would be able to be more than capable.

If it's under a new contract his current contract was a shock to me when I saw the tag.
I'd rather use the money it would take to sign him to resign some of our guys.

It would have to be a new contract. That game he started for Carr kicked escalators to12 mil a year and no one wants to pay that kinda money for a backup this year so they would end up releasing him and save $10 mil on their cap. I would love to see his skill set with his mobility in Shannahans offense.

So when Jimmy goes down you would rather put the ball in the hands of a QB that couldn't beat Blaine Gabbert out at the beginning of last season?

Lynch already said he is committing to bringing in a better backup QB in case Jimmy goes down. Thats not Rosen or any other QB on the roster currently.

Rosen was a late addition to that roster. While Gabbert was there a for a bit and was familiar with the offense they ran.

If your starter goes down long term your season is pretty much done regardless
s**t, if they could find an affordable way to acquire Mariota, I'd be for it. My concern with him was that his arm was shot after the nerve damage, but it looks like he's regained some of his arm strength. He can do all the stuff Kyle likes from the pocket while also providing the running element.

Dude looked really good when he filled in for Carr this season.

Tempting. So- so- tempting but I say no lets keep Jimmy for another year and keep someone like Rosen in the pipeline. Marcus is just not a natural thrower of the ball. It's always been clunky from what Ive seen.
