Joe Williams - RB, Utah

All these good NFL RBs can turn on a dime...and Joe is no exception. But the speed...that is what caught your eye. Man he has it and he can turn it on in a heartbeat. I wonder if carries are shared this yr or if Joe actually gets the majority? Say by midseason. Hard to say not seeing both work out in same time frame. But...

Look up Colemans first year reps.

This draft reminds me of the 2010 and 2011 drafts. Both great drafts that produced quality players. I hated the thomas pick, and im still skeptical, but he's warming up to me. The 49ers NEED to address the o line and weapons for next year's draft.

Carlos is more thunder to William's lighting. I think if we're ahead Carlos is the back to go to. Powerful and can get through an 8 man front, and Williams, looks like he can break through a defense that's geared to stopping the pass. Williams looks more like a slashing player that defenses have to really watch for when they pass rush. It's that speed. If they pursue at a wrong angle it's a TD. Carlos doesn't strike me as having the home run speed that William's has. Kyle has impressed me with the players he's gotten on this team. It looks much more explosive than ever before.

Nice point, Giedi....everything is moving in FAST gear. DL, WRs, RBs, to a lesser extent OL( slowed by late changes at C and LG)...everything just seems to be moving at hyper speed. That was one of the early things Kyle said he wanted...speed...more of it and faster yet.

Joe Williams is 5'11 210 pounds.

I still don't see why he is considered a small back. He has very good size for a rookie RB and can easily gain 5 to 10 pounds. He is a 4-down back.

I thought Williams look a bit gut heavy. But if he's at 210, who cares.

I don't recall size being the knock against him. I think it was his upright running style and inability to create. That's what (for now) keeps him from being a "four down back". He obviously excels outside the tackles. You need that on the team. But you also need somebody who can make it happen between the tackles as well...IF you want to be a four down back.

IMO, it's a make or break year for CH because it's his contract year.

And if he gets injured Again he probably won't be considered a long-term part of the solution.

Keep in mind we're in "Year One" of the rebuild.

It's not his ability on the field that makes him, in my mind, on the bubble as a long-term fit.

It's his inability to stay healthy.

We're going to be shelling out some major $$$ to him But he needs to stay healthy.

As JW keeps improving he may make paying a large sum to CH impractical.

I don't know. I don't see any issues with his running style. He has a very strong base that sheds arm tackles.

I think Hyde is on his way out. There is no reason to shell out starting RB money and commit to him for even 3 years when he has not shown that he can carry the load, especially when we have a coach who finds RB's deeper in the draft. Knowing this, I think Williams will see more action very soon. And don't forget, Shanny and Lynch had to send a message to him for him to get lit up. That's already a bad sign.

good to see we have a guy that can take over when hyde goes on IR by week 5.
